Stargate: SG-1 season 8 DVD - Threads is EDITED

Hello. I just wanted to let everyone know that the episode Threads on the R1 season 8 DVD set of Stargate: SG-1 is the edited version.

The producers of SG-1 made two versions of Threads one that was to be the regular length of ~43 minutes (60 minutes with commercials) and a longer version that would be ~60 minutes (90 minutes with commercials).

Well the version included on the DVD set is the shorter/edited version.

Those of you who have the set or intend on purchasing it should contact SONY here: [email protected]

MGM's consumer help email address is no longer valid and you are told to contact SONY directly!

I'm still waiting for a resonse, but hopefully what will be done is that a DVD of the FULL-LENGTH uncut episode of Threads will be provided by MGM/SONY directly by mail. Similar to what was done with the missing Stills Gallery from season 5.

If this is news to you then I guess you might want to check your DISC 1 of season 5. I'm not sure if later pressings of the set included the Stills Gallery.

Since SONY has taken over MGM, you might want to contact them directly and inquire about the Stills Gallery, if it's still being offered.

From the subject line, I thought someone was complaining about threads on this forum being edited by mods.

I think I bought it when it first came out so I suspect they aren't there... that sort of thing is of little interest to me though so it's no big deal.

More finished footage though is a different story Wonder why they used the trimed version instead? Why is there a longer version of this one eps? When was it shown? Where did you find out about it?

"A LOT happens in this particular episode. So much so that Robert [Cooper] felt it would be better served in a 90-minute version." (Executive producer Joseph Mallozzi, in a message at GateWorld Forum)

"'Threads' was running long, very long. It really found its length in the 90-minute version. It's been a battle to get SCI FI and FOX on board to broadcast the 90-minute version so we didn't have to cut it down to 42 [minutes]. So we ended up doing both versions." (Executive producer Michael Greenburg, in a panel at London Film and Comic Con)

So it isn't a matter of not getting the right version, the one on the set was the one that aired. Correct? The 90 minute version would just be a "director's / alternate" cut.

The 63 minute episode aired on SciFi the 42 minute edited version is used for syndication. The 42 minute edited version is on the DVD, the producers of the show stated months ago the 63 min. complete episode would be on the dvd, it isn't.

Wow, as someone else stated, I didn't even know this was out. I own 1-7 thanks to CH TV on DVD enrollments, but I'm dissapointed to hear they syndicutted threads, but glad to hear they'll replace. Perhaps they're replace new editions of the set in the future to avoid a mail in.

Another disappointment is Threads doesn't seem to have a commentary

I guess that the reason it doesn't is because the EDITED version didn't have a commentary recorded for it, but that the FULL LENGTH version did.

One would have to assume that the EDITED version was never intended to be on the DVD set for region 1. I'm pretty sure that monthes ago, GateWorld.net said TPTB said the Full length version was going to be on the DVD set.

Of course, that's just a guess.

Why are they making me pay to ship something back that was their mistake to begin with?

Agreed, I hope that the auto manufacturers aren't going to make me pay to send their cars back to detroit or japan when they have a defect. Also I don't see deep discount dvd on the drop down so I can't even get the return.

I do agree that the return for a replacement disc (when it is their fault in the first place) isn't the way this deal should work.

The page says:

SEND: (1) THIS COMPLETED CERTIFICATE.
(2) THE ENTIRE JEWEL CASE AND DVD (AND OR)
(3) THE ORIGINAL PROOF OF PURCHASE FROM YOUR PACKAGING.

Now, is it just me or does it read send the disc and/OR the proof of purchase? Seems like the proof of purchase would be easier/cheaper to send.

It would also require cutting the box though right, or does each case have it's own pop (I don't have any in front me right now)?

Each insert inside each case has a proof of purchase square that can be cut out.

Probably worth a try... although since the site also says "Submissions must be postmarked by 1/31/2005" it might be safer just to send the whole case in since who knows what other typos may be on the page

There's a proof of purchase on each insert inside the cases. Wonder if we can just send that?
