Godfather Part II DVD (Disc One) gone bad

I played this movie a week back and at about twenty minutes into the movie, it freezes and won't go any further. I examined the disc and noticed that I could easily see the disc art from the other side showing through on the "shiny" side of the disc. It's really sad it should do that since all it's been doing is sitting in its box. Anybody else have this problem?

This is from the Godfather DVD Collection that was released a few years back.

Anybody else have this problem?

I inspect the The Godfather II on the separate DVD release, and the label is also transparent through the disc. I viewed the DVD approximately a month ago, and it played perfect without defects. The label transparency should not have any correlation to the defect your expericing.

What can be done about that? Will Paramount replace the disc? Probably not...I guess I'm just stuck with a lemon

This kinda situation happens to me a lot especially on tv shows on DVD.

Touchstone replaced DVDs for me before with no charge. Fox didn't replace any for me though.

You could just replace it. They sell them seperately now.

If the return, exchange policy has exceeded the expiration date, on your original receipt of purchase, then unfortunately there is nothing the retailer can possibly do to honor, and resolve your complaint. Usually merchants offer a thirty (30) period for all return, or exchanges on their merchandise. Your other alternative may be is to contact Paramount Studios via email, and explain your situation, and hopefully they will assist you with a new replacement disc, after you return the defected DVD to them.

Or better yet, this week Circuit City has some titles including the Godfathers 2 for $20.

Have you tried playing the disc on other DVD players? If it doesn't play, with the error in the same place, then it's the disc, for sure.
