Need help identifying a flick (involves 3 psychos dressed as clowns)

I know a lot of you hate these but what the hell......what better place to ask.

I'm trying to find a movie I remember seeing a loooooong time ago (80's), it involved 3 psychos who escaped from an insitution and found a house in pretty much the middle of nowhere - they dressed up like clowns and stalked whoever was inside.

That's all I remember. Can you help?

Well, I remember "back then" it freaked me out, but I have no idea what it will do now.

The beginning I know for a fact is pretty damn creepy as there isn't much dialogue and it's just the three of them walking down the road (or something).

The house break in (which is right after.....I think) is pretty cool too (If I remember correctly).

I would just say check it out if you're interested (and if it's not much money).

I'm really curious about how I will react to seeing this after so much time has passed as well.

Go ahead and google clownhouse for some pics.

Wow, that sounds a lot like the plot for the newer film "Devil's Rejects"... Weird.

Was a scary film in 1988. Decent for 1988 when it was new and not dated. Scared me when I was in the single digits. Almost wet my pants.

Don't make the mistake I did by re-watching it. Keep those memories as is. Watching it again ruined those for me.

I even bought this movie to be able to see it again.

Yes, this is the film that Salva got busted for (and the boy is one of the main characters in the film). There's a link about this somewhere.

Personally, the film is OK, but pretty mild in terms of violence and scare factor (of course, I didn't see it until recently - I'm 34 - so maybe it would have freaked me out if I had seen it when I was younger). It has several slow spots - some of which are boring, others which are pretty creepy. For anyone who complains about PG-13 films like Ring and Grudge, this is no where near as scary as those two. Clownhouse is rated R, but today, it would easily get a mild PG-13. Unfortunately, I think alot of the controversy surrounding the film is what attracts people to it, IMHO.
