I never got the point of celebrating the anniversary of someone's death. Besides... the 9th??? Doesn't every day on the calendar mark the day of SOME famous person's death? Grace Kelly died on 9/14, Johnny Ramone on 9/15, Doris Day on 9/16, Red Skelton on 9/17, Jimi Hendrix on 9/18, and so on.

I'm no Tupac apologist, but if you dig deeper into his lyrics (or just listen to "Changes" for starters), you'll see why he is still a cultural icon nine years after his death and why he is seen as more than a "hateful thug" by his fans and even filmmakers (Resurrection).
Sure there were songs like "Hit 'Em Up," but he put out a lot of meaningful, insightful and intelligent music that cemented his legacy and garnered him the following that remains as strong as ever today.
