It's advertised in this week's CC ad saying "Available Friday", but everything else seems to indicate a 9/22 release.

Doesn't look all that great, I'll probably pass on it until it's $30 or so.

Reviews sound good and I love the look of it, but I never cared for the Ultimate universe and I really don't like the fact that even though the story mode is excellent they free roaming mode has really dropped off this year. The thing to me that was most fun about Spider Man 2 and the reason I still play it is the free roaming mode. This games sounds like a rental.

It's fun, I havn't played Spiderman 2, so I'm not sure if it's the same.
But cruising around NYC is cool, the navigation is hard, you have to keep zooming out and viewing the map...

Playing Venom is pretty cool.

I've played maybe 1/2 hour, it's a lot of racing, beating the clock...

fighting the criminals is cool too, you can kick or punch, then when they are down you have to spray them with webbing to keep them down, else they pop back up.

I don't know about this one.

I kinda burnt myself out of virtual web-slinging with Spiderman 2 a year or so ago and I really dislike the whole cell shaded look in just about every game, so I may give this a rental if I've got a free weekend.

From IGN.COM

9.0 Presentation
The use of comic-book panels and a total faithfulness to the source material turn this into a living graphic novel.

8.0 Graphics
Though there's some slowdown that chips away just a bit at the overall polish, Spidey and his foes look spectacular. Venom in Times Square at night is like a carnivorous velvet painting come to life.

8.0 Sound
Filled with unknowns, the voice-acting pool is solid. The score is an acceptable watered-down techno, but it lacks range and doesn't add much to the scenes.

8.0 Gameplay
High marks for the story missions and a tepid thumbs up for the exploration. The combat system is frenetic, the boss battles a hoot and Venom is a delightful terror.

8.0 Lasting Appeal
The story mode is incredibly short, but the quest to 100% all of the city events will take at least 20 hours, even for a veteran player.

8.4 OVERALL
(out of 10 / not an average)

We finally got this in at CC a few days ago, but like all the recent Marvel games, its not selling well at all. Is the same happening elsewhere?

I think Marvel really should have spaced out these releases, even if they are separate publishers. I believe they have saturated the market between X-Men Legends 2, Marvel Nemesis, Incredible Hulk, and Ultimate Spider-Man in under a month.

Yeah, i do think that it was poor timing putting all of these together. Hulk came out a few weeks ago, which was fine, but if Ultimate SM wasn't delayed a little, it would've come out in the same week as Imperfects and X-men Legends 2: all of which have lots and lots of expensive TV commercials, but are drawing mediocre interest on this board, at least (I don't remember threads for Imperfects or X-men Legends 2, and this thread is hardly buzzing). It's a shame because Hulk was a great game, this game looks decent, and X-men Legends, while more of the same, seems pretty fun after the couple of hours I played it (plus it's 4 players and online). Of course, people might just be busy with other things... I'm kinda surprised there's no Batallion Wars thread as well...

I traded in Spiderman 2 to get this, so I hope it's a little better... and I am still a fan of cell shading, especially for comic properties.

Anyone start playing this yet?

Fairly early on, Spidey's first real boss is Rhino but for the life of me, I cannot figure out what to do.

Spidey points out wet concrete and a wrecking ball and that "gives him an idea" which is obvious, knock him into the concrete with the ball but you first have to get him in front of the ball. How?

Rhino starts by lifting up some object and you hear Spidey saying he needs to get his attention and maybe by "getting on his back" you can do that.

Well, as best as I can tell, you can't get on his back, you go right through him. You can hit him a few times but it does nothing. There's a glowing blue spot on his back as well which is clearly a target but you can only hit him a couple of times before he throws that big object he was ripping out from the ground and throws it. Once he throws it, you fail and you just have a few seconds to do what you're supposed to do *before* he makes the throw.

I'm completely at a loss and I'm sure it must be something simple but I don't know what or how to accomplish the objective.

Can anybody help?

When in doubt, always check at www.gamefaqs.com first.
Here's the solution, from their website:
Spoiler:
Strategy: First, you encounter R.H.I.N.O. at this construction site. He tries to
lift a gas tank of sorts. Jump on his back by pressing jump than grab. Wail at
him until he stops what he’s doing, then jump. He will fall on his back, causing
minor damage if you’re caught underneath it. Then he will start fighting you.
All he does is use what I dubbed, the Megaton Punch. Lure him to the patch of
wet cement, than let him punch the ground. He will be temporarily stuck, so run
to the wrecking ball and trigger it, causing the ball to slam into R.H.I.N.O.'s
back. R.H.I.N.O. will continue to run, and once you catch up, the real fight
begins.

Once you are at the used park lot, prepare to do a lot of jumping. R.H.I.N.O.
has multiple attacks, but when you catch up, he will most likely throw the cars.
Once he uses his Megaton Punch, the panel on his back will be vulnerable. Leap
onto it and start wailing, but jump when he starts to fall backwards or else
he’ll make Spider-Man pancakes. Afterwards, he’ll get back up. Beware, the panel
on his back has an electric discharge, so you can’t jump onto it. Once he’s up,
he’ll create a shockwave, than lunge at you several times. Just double jump out
of the way. After a few lunges, he’ll walk to the middle, and start sending
shockwaves. Jump around, and it’ll never hit you. Once he uses his Megaton Punch
again, the discharge will be gone, so continue wailing. Don’t get too close, or
he’ll step on you, smack you, or grab you. If he grabs you, he’ll start mashing
your body against the cement, which is not a pleasant experience. Only get close
when you have to hurt him. After you lower him to two brackets left, he will
start charging you. Stand next to a wall, and he will charge you. When he gets
too close for comfort, double jump away and he will slam into the wall. Make him
slam into two more walls, than he’ll become unconscious and vulnerable. This
state doesn’t last long, so you better be quick in jumping and wailing him.
Repeat this a few more times, then its over.

I finished the game in maybe 4-5 hours. Almost all of the story mode missions are chase someone around the city and then fight them at the end. While it was fun overall and had a few cool surprises, it's a rental at best.

4-5 hours? That is awful. I was going to wait for this to hit the $20 dollar range, but maybe I will just rent. I can't imagine that the swinging is so new that I would want to do it like I did with Spidey 2 again(which artificially extended the life of that game for me).

I've played it a little (I still have a hard time splitting time between this, Xmen Legends 2, and Hulk). So far, the web-swinging seems underwhelming... they made it a bit easier, I guess, but I keep jumping off buildings when I jump during a wall crawl. It might just be that I'm not used to it yet, though. Graphics and the whole integrated comic panels are pretty cool, though.

Rented it this past weekend. The art direction is great and the voice work is much better than the movie-based games. But, the swinging is not nearly as much fun. It goes back to that first game where I never felt like I was in control of the swinging. However, I must say that the game is WAAAY too easy. The only thing I had to try more than once was one of the chase levels. I stuck with story mode and it took under 4 hours to complete. With the size of the city, they surely could have made sidequests to extend the game?!? Worth a rentai, but far too short to even wait for it to hit $20.

I know they're not exactly timely, but Video Game Talk has reviews for the Xbox version and the PS2 version.
