I'm very excited for it. I got into Civ III quite a while after it was released, but I've put more hours into that game than any other game "Just one more turn and I'm done for the night ...one more turn...." is the absolute truth. Civ III is the only game that I've nearly pulled an all-nighter on.

I'm all over this when it comes out. Oh, and don't forget that Circuit City has it for $49.99 with a free $10 gift card next week. Not sure what Best Buy is doing, but I imagine nothing.
This is all I need, this coming out next week, along with the TRU sale and Far Cry Instincts being $28. Too many deals.

I'll be picking this up next week. Civ III is the last PC game I've bought. Too bad they couldn't port this to the Xbox 360 or other nex-gen system. It'd be fun to play on the bigscreen.
Thanks for the headsup on the $10 GC at CC.

Gamestop is upgrading you to the special edition if you pre-order there. Honestly though, I'm not sure why I'm doing that. I barely touched the packins on III's tin.

That's why I never pre-order. You never know when there's a better deal to be had on the same day.

From the IGN review:
Not a big deal to me that they didn't change that, but I wonder why they didn't. I guess just to give the slower developing countries a chance.
While we're on the subject of combat, I have to admit that the game still suffers from the spearman-defeats-tank combats. I honestly don't have as big a problem with this as most other players, but it's been a controversial design decision since day one. Admittedly, the disparity between primitive and advanced units isn't quite as wide as it would be in the "real word," but I'm willing to accept the abstractions used in the game. I mean, even the Ewoks were able to take out an AT-AT every once in a while. But even if you accept that a substantially weaker unit could win these combats, it just seems wrong that knights can defeat helicopters.

this is a pretty funny civ4 trailer. so true so true.
and this is a funny as hell promo site... it seems like maybe they're getting everything right this time, including the advertising
that's too funny!
edited to add: taking a peak around the above site, this quote - "i love gandhi. he puts the mmmm... hot in mahatma!" (it's from one of the warning signs videos..)

Release dates for video games aren't the same as they are for DVD's. It takes a few days for them to get to the B&M stores. Gaming speciality stores (such as Gamestop) will probably have them tomorrow (if not this afternoon).

So, why can't video game publishers have games in stores the day of release, like every other media product?
I sort of fell out of the computer game habit a couple of years ago, and I'm disappointed this problem persists.
