What, a celebrity not playing themselves? How will one of the characters (usuallly Lisa) exclaim their name in order to clue in clueless viewers on who it is?

Not a good premiere episode at all, IMO. Generic all the way with few if any laughs.

The one thing about the show that I did like was the

Still better than that atrocity of a show Family Guy.

Agreed - I think FOX made a good move this year by moving the premieres up a couple months.

An average episode at best tonight. That's too bad considering that I thought the show ended on a high note last season.

I liked Homer's comment about the "gay mafia".

That was just an awful episode. I've kept trying to give this show another chance after so many years of being a fan, but I think now in a SNL level of attempted comedy.

At least family guy should have a few more seasons of funny left.

I had a few random laughs, but taking the episode as a whole, it was definitely lacking. But I agree with the Simpsons > Family Guy opinion.

Definitely lacking. Not very funny, although the manatee at Homer's job was good for some laughs.

Excellent start to what I consider still consider the best show on television.

Loved the "Carwash" ending.

RIP Manny the Manatee...you will be missed.

Right....

Sadly, The Simpsons is a shell of their former selves. I expect about 10 good episodes this year, with the rest being average. It seems that is about what to expect each year.

Yawn, another "simpson gone downhill" rant. Did you just think of that? You're about 4-5 years too late. It has been getting better now.

That's funny. Weren't you just bashing Family Guy? So you can say that show is atrocious but I can't say The Simpsons is a shell of it's former self?

Anyway, I stand by my statement. Any true Simpsons fan that still watches the show will agree that there's about 10 -12 good shows a year and the rest are just filler w/ occasional laughs. Maybe you need to get your sense of humor checked.

I preferred 4 or 5 years ago... There was no spider-man inspired super hero Homer back then, and those seasons hosted both one of my favorite episode endings (the Prisoner bit) as well as quotes ("I was working on a flat tax proposal when I accidentally proved theres no God."... Flander's response still makes me laugh.)

The show does fluccuate season to season though. Hopefully this will be a good season. I love the Simpsons as I grew up with them and have a certain comfort with all the characters, it's disheartening to see the quality fall as much as it has but nice to have the occasional good episode.

I had my sense of humor checked and the diagnostic report that came back told me that The Simpsons is still the best show on television.

Great start to the season. My favorite part was Marge straightening out her hair by sticking her finger in the cigarette lighter hole. Also, Bart in the dog kennel cracked me up.

By the way, he broke that in his review of Love Actually. ...

Average episode. Look forward to the rest of the season.

Yet another reason this show is much better than Buffy.

Laughs throughout.

Half the season? I think you're being generous.
