"Scrubs" S1, Ep. 1...is there supposed to be so much grain?

I finally got around to popping the first DVD in and on the first ep. i notice so much grain, especially in the fanatasy sequences. Is it just me or is there very, very noticeable grain in the video?

I mean reviewers say it looks better than on broadcast, but i beg to differ.

Anyone else see this or is it my player/and/or setup? Does it get better with the eps or what?

I tend to think that such a recent show (2001) would look considerably better.

Anyone?

I just rewatched my copy a couple days ago. Mine has alot of grain also. I think the other episodes are better, still not supersharp, but that first episode does standout.

The first episode was a pilot, usually shot for less money than later episodes. They might have shot it on 16mm to save $$, which would account for extra grain. The show is shot on film, so grain is going to show up occasionally on some episodes in certain shots. There's nothing wrong with a little grain.

sounds similar to the Twin Peaks Season 1 release in other countries. The Pilot episode is more grainy than the rest of the season.

You want to see a grainy pilot, watch the pilot episode of Sex and the City.
