After the top 12, the next 8 are basically interchangeable to me. I do like Pierce Brosnan as Bond but his Bond is so freaking omniscient that I'm bored and disinterested because it's obvious that nothing could ever really threaten him. Sean Connery's Bond, especially early in the film series, made mistakes, got lucky and fought for his life with what seemed like real desperation. The Bond/"Red" Grant fight in From Russia With Love is the most exciting fight sequence of the whole series because it wasn't a seemingly sure thing that Bond was going to make it. It was only the fact that he knew something that Grant didn't that saved him, as he had basically been beaten and outfoxed. I also loved John Barry's scores during Connery's run.
BTW, if it hadn't been a solid though unspectacular turn by Roger Lazenby as Bond in On Her Majesty's Secret Service, that film would clearly be the best in the series, hands down. A nearly perfect Bond film.

After the top 12, the next 8 are basically interchangeable to me. I don't think I've seen all of the Bond films in their entirety, but my favorite is License to Kill and least favorite is the awful Moonraker.

The Best:
1) From Russia With Love - The perfect Bond movie. It's got all the elements of the Bond formula before it got stale. Plus Connery hadn't pussied out yet. He was a badass in this movie. The train fight is arguably the finest moment in the entire series.
2) On Her Majesty's Secret Service - If Connery had done it, it would easily be the best Bond flick. I really liked Lazenby in the role(and there are moments where he did better than Connery ever could've done), but having the original and definitive Bond would've made the drastic shift in tone and plot a little easier to handle.
3) Licence to Kill - Yes, it feels more like Die Hard than James Bond(the Michael Kamen score sure don't help), but I love Timothy Dalton's performance in this movie. It puts nearly the entire Roger Moore era to shame. About the only complaints I have with this flick are 1) Talisa Soto really can't act, 2) the aforementioned Kamen was no John Barry, and 3) a story like this should've followed OHMSS.
4) Goldfinger - I find this movie overrated(the 2nd half is dreadfully dull up until the Fort Knox sequence), but it does have a lot going for it. A great villain, a great henchman, the best opening song, one of Connery's better performances, cool gadgets, and Jill Masterson(with or without the gold paint).
5) For Your Eyes Only - If John Barry had scored the film and the ice skater subplot been left on the cutting room floor, it might've cracked my Top 3. Roger Moore gave his best performance in this movie(and commits his only cold blooded act as Bond). It has one of the best and most beautiful Bond girls. Topol makes a great sidekick, reminiscent of Kerim Bay and Marc-Ange Draco. The action sequences are fun and inventive. And I love the continuity at the beginning with Tracy's grave and the long-awaited demise of Blofeld. I do wish it had featured a stronger villain than Julian Glover's Kristatos.
The Worst:
1) Live and Let Die - Aside from the title song and Jane Seymour(who can't act to save her life, but at least looks hot), I can't think of one redeeming aspect of this movie. Even Bond's intro sucks. Think of how every other actor was introduced as James Bond and compare that to Roger Moore trying to hide a chick from M like it's a scene from a bad sitcom. Dreadful.
2) Octopussy - The opening and closing action sequences involving planes are great, but the rest of the movie was forgettable to say the least. And Bond disguising himself as a clown is a low point in the series. Great John Barry score, at least.
3) Die Another Day - The first 45 minutes were cool, and reminiscent of Licence to Kill. But then the invisible car, gene therapy, ice palace, and Halle Berry came along and everything went to hell. Then again, he was looking really old at this point, so maybe the producers were right in letting him go.

DVD Talk Legend
There will be some unpopular choices here, but I grew up in the Roger Moore era so my idea of a Bond movie differs from others. (May contain minor spoilers.)
1.The Spy Who Loved Me
The perfect "big Bond" movie, IMO. Jaws is my favorite sub-villain of the series.
2.Octopussy
A sentimental favorite, the first Bond I saw in a theater. I love the locales.
3.Goldfinger
The first upscaled Bond film, and one of the best.
4.You Only Live Twice
Great 60s Japanese scenery, plus the best villain headquarters perhaps ever. Donald Pleasance makes the best Blofeld, even after Dr. Evil lampooned him.
5.The Man With the Golden Gun
Christopher Lee, Herve, and the island funhouse. A bit trippy for a Bond movie but that's what makes it great. A cameo by Sheriff Pepper is a negative, but thankfully it's short.
6.For Your Eyes Only
The first 007 I saw, on cable. One of the most dated, and frankly that's what makes it great. In 007 films the "dating" really takes me back to that era. One of the best "small scale" Bond films for me.
7.On Her Majesty's Secret Service
Lazenby was pretty terrible here, but the story and feel of the movie make up for it.
8.GoldenEye
Solid debut for Brosnan. It's a bit "cheap" looking for a modern day 007 film, but it manages to avoid some of the sillier overkill of the later ones.
9.Diamonds Are Forever
The ending is boring, but the semi-old Vegas setting hooks me every time. The funeral home scenes are the creepiest in the series.
10.Moonraker
Filled with many horrible scenes. The pigeon double take... come on! But this is one of those movies I always watch with "kid glasses". On that level it's a lot of fun.
11.Dr. No
The elements are mostly in place. For me this movie doesn't really take off until Ursula's in her bikini, but from that point on it's good Bond.
12.The World is Not Enough
Great action sequences, but Denise Richards? But then again, Sophie Marceau. At this point the plots start blurring together.
13.The Living Daylights
Dalton's debut is a solid 80s Ruskkie 007 flick.
14.Tomorrow Never Dies
Inspired idea for a villain, but Jonathan Pryce makes him dull. Yeoh is fun, but the chemistry between her and Brosnan never clicked IMO. Still, a fun entry.
15.Live And Let Die
Baron Samedi is great, but the story has never grabbed me. The horrible Sheriff Pepper takes away major points.
16.Die Another Day
I had this higher. I haven't seen this in awhile. I remember enjoying it at the time, but now all I can remember is that phony CGI wave and the way they forcefed us the Jinx character.
17.From Russia With Love
I understand why this appeals to many, but it's just not my cup of tea. Some great sequences in here, though.
18.A View to a Kill
Great theme song. Walken and Grace are great choices for villains. But the end result is just not good. Action sequences are poor, and Tanya Roberts is possibly the worst Bond girl actingwise (yes, that includes Denise Richards).
19.Thunderball
The appeal of this is lost on me. Easily the most boring film of the series. The setting isn't even that interesting.
20.Licence To Kill
Doesn't feel like Bond to me. It was just too early in Dalton's run to try to pull this off.

There really isn't a Bond movie I hate (except for Die Another Day), and I pretty much like watching them all. It's easy to pick 1-5 favorites, but below that, it's a tough call. I know people regard Goldeneye pretty highly, but I definitely find the older style 007 to be more enjoyable.

Weird, it seems like most people I talk to about Bond movies absolutely despise Timothy Dalton. Roger Moore is the Bond I remember growing up, and Brosnan is credited with bringing the franchise back from the grave, but my favorite would still have to be Dalton. I havent seen every one of the movies, but Living Daylights is my favorite. I dont think License to Kill is a great Bond movie but id watch it before any of the Brosnan movies (with the exception of Goldeneye). I think Carey Landrey is a very underrated Bond Girl.

Really too hard to rank 'em- I've loved all the Bond movies through the years from the worst to the best as a canon. If the franchise ended tomorrow it would still bring me decades of entertainment.
