DVD-R Makes things slow

Sorry if already posted
I got a DVD/VHS recorder (both record, the VCR and DVD) and if I watch anything useing the machine it slow when I push a button on the remote. I have TiVo hooked up and if I pause it, it will take a few seconds to pause. Some if I had the menu botton or change the channel. I have a video game until hooked up to the dvd/vcr and while you play it, it's slow. I hit left and it will take a few seonds for the person on the game to move left. is this normal? how can i fix it?

Does this DVD recorder also act as a DVR - ex. can it pause live tv? If it can - then it looks like the Tivo is putting a couple of seconds into memory, then the DVD recorder is putting a couple of seconds into memory. The combination of the two could make for a couple of second delay between when you hit a button on your remote and when you see the channel actualy change.

I would try to hook the DVD recorder up to another set of outputs on your receiver, tivo or cable box. Record what you want, then watch it through another DVD player hooked up to your system.

Well, I have no thoughts on why it is happening. I assume it is repeatable and does not happen if you plug in the games directly?

For under $20 you should be able to find a switch box to plug 4 devices into one input on the TV. That's gotta be better than dealing with switching wires or the slowdown you are experiencing.
