People with AIDS don't like Family Guy
Okay, first off, don't start posting about how you (or someone you know) has AIDS (or is HIV positive) and thinks Family Guy is hilarious.
Here's a story from The Advocate about how various AIDS groups are after FOX for (twice) airing the episode of Family Guy where Peter and a barbershop quartet sing a song about someone having AIDS.
News story about AIDS groups criticizing Family Guy
I won't recount what happens in the episode (they do that in the news story) but FOX's defense is basically that the show's critics don't get the joke, and that Family Guy watchers certainly do.
A FOX spokesman defends the show, saying (in part):
"This scene is not a joke about HIV but rather Peter’s ignorance" and
"The audience that tunes into this series is well-aware of what to expect from the show"
One of the show's detractors says:
“A barbershop quartet singing blithely about AIDS is about as funny as a song about breast cancer or leukemia"
I, Count Dooku, can't recall any songs about cancer, but I'm not willing to rule out that one could be funny.

There's no use in arguing with those that don't get the joke.

Did they not get angry with South Park when they did the episode about Jared from Subway saying he wanted to give everybody AIDS? And then at the end of the episode, the entire town declares that "AIDS is finally funny!", and they all start making jokes about it.... That's ok with them, but this Family Guy thing is not?

I didn't find the Family Guy AIDS song all that funny, either- but I can't say I was offended.

The people with HIV shouldn't be offended. In the song Peter specifies its not HIV, but full-blown AIDS.

Frankly, as a young man and goatee wearer, I'm offended that The Advocate would imply that a goatee is supposed to possibly imply homosexuality. I would like an explanation and a public apology.
... You see how ludicrous this whole situation is?

I don't have aids, and don't know anyone who does, or if I do they never told me
I didn't find that song funny and can easily see how people are offended

As a gay man I feel free to say that it seems the PC militant **** at The Advocate seem to have their thongs in a bunch over pretty much nothing... again.
I didn't see the episode, but have heard the song. I'm sure it was funnier to actually watch than just listen to, but I thought it was funny and didn't offend at all. If the song had been about "the cancer", there would be no reaction at all or we might hear a little peep from the American Cancer Society because they felt they had to. Again, "Family Guy's" audience knows what it's in for, including stuff like this.
Get over it!

The song definately made my PC sense tingle. I knew there would be fallout, which I also thought was funny.
Personally, I like inappropriate humor. If you are sensitive about any issue, you should not watch Family Guy, South Park, etc.
Some people just think that life should not offend them.

My question is why did it take The Advocate so long to complain about this episode? Wasn't it on over a month ago? Personally, they should consider the much BIGGER fish they have to fry than a song in an adult cartoon.
