I Love the 80's : 3D

""I LOVE THE 80'S: 3D" -- PREMIERES OCTOBER 24 - 28, 2005
We're back, we're funnier than ever, and because we haven't run out of
ideas, we're taking it to the third dimension, with gnarly special effects
that'll-like-blow your mind! That's right. Put on your 3D glasses and check
out that chick's bangs, this is "I Love The 80s: 3D!!!" "I Love the 80's: 3D"
brings you a skewed view of the music, movies, TV shows, fashions, fads, and
trends that defined pop culture during every year of the decade. From Oak
Ridge Boys to Fine Young Cannibals, Jheri-curl to Rat tails, Cannonball Run to
Steel Magnolias. The tearjerkers ... the tacky ... and everything in between.
It's 80's-style technology with a 21st century twist. With all your favorite
comics, rock stars and celebs coming together to wax poetic about the
essential '80s experience, viewers will be bombarded with every aspect of '80s
pop culture in amazing 3D."

I'll record and watch, but I doubt there is enough stuff left to talk about to fill another 10 hours...

Good idea, since 3-D was so big in the 80s.

It's a joke on Jaws 3D and Amityville 3D. the early 80s was one of the major attempts at a 3D revival. It failed because the movies were crap, but it makes sense.

Right, but the "joke" is that Jaws and Amityville (and Spy Kids btw) were the Part 3s of their respective series. So 3 became 3D. This is I Love The 80s Part 3... hence... oh forget it.

Cool. I still think there's plenty of stuff left to talk about. I just hope they keep the funny people and ditch the lame people. I'll be Tivoing it.

For the record, there were a lot more 3-D movies released to theatres in the 1980's.

These all used the traditional polarized (clear) lens glasses, not the the red/blue type, BTW.

COMIN AT YA! (1981)
ROTTWEILER (1981)
DIAL M FOR MURDER (re-release)
HOUSE OF WAX (re-release)
REVENGE OF THE SHOGUN WOMEN (re-release)
THE STEWARDESSES (re-release)
FRANKENSTEIN (re-release)
PARASITE (1982)
FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 3 (1982)
TREASURE OF THE FOUR CROWNS (1983)
SPACEHUNTER: ADVENTURES IN THE FORBIDDEN ZONE (1983)
THE MAN WHO WASN'T THERE (1983)
JAWS 3-D (1983)
METALSTORM (1983)
AMITYVILLE 3-D (1983)
EMMANUELLE IV (1984)
VENUS (1983)
SEXCALIBUR (1983)
SILENT MADNESS (1984)
CHAIN GANG (1984)
HIT THE ROAD RUNNING (1984)
THE GREAT BALLOON CHASE (1984)
TALES OF THE THIRD DIMENSION (1984)
HYPERSPACE (1984)
STARCHASER: THE LEGEND OF ORIN (1985)

A few foreign 3-D soft and hard core flicks like MENAGE A TOIS, SUPER GIRLS in 3D STEREO VISION, etc also showed up.

There were also a slew of 3-D TV broadcasts, which did use the inferior but simple red/blue format. These were pretty awful, and the older 50s films they downconverted (badly) into this process were especially poor.

There not really going to use any kind of 3-D gimmick on VH-1 are they? Isn't the title just a parody of the "second sequel in 3-D" idea?

Agreed. Also, I can stand Donal Logue in small doses, but by the end of each series, it seems like he is just ranting incoherently on whatever subject they are on. He grates on me after a while.

They're going to be showing some of it in ChromaDepth, which is not real 3D but uses glasses: http://www.chromatek.com/ChromaDepth...th_primer.html

I guessed as much. I thought they might use the "other" fake 3-D system, Pulfrich Illusion.

Don't anyone tune in expecting any sort of 3-D!

My TiVo recorded "1980" yesterday... I guess they started early.

It was okay. They were scraping the bottom a bit... covered Richard Pryor setting himself on fire, which strikes me as something you wouldn't remember even if you were old enough to in 1980.

I saw 1980 yesterday too. Same format as the previous versions but they do indeed have to start scraping as this is the third hour of coverage for each year.

I remember that.

But overall, the show sucked, the "comics" sucked, and the 3-d effects were poop.

I might record it and FF just to catch Karo, I've been on his email list for years, it'd be nice to 'see' him.

I was only 8 in 1980 and I remember Pryor catching himself on fire, it was pretty big news and one of his funniest bits in his later shows.
