International Price Differences

How does it come that there are so big price differences for the same dvd on different kind of markets?

cost of living, and copyright laws are the two main factors.

cost of living. If an american brings home a 600 dollar paycheck for two weeks he can afford to pay 20 dollars for a dvd.

If someone in another country brings home the equivalent of 200 american dollars for the same type of work and pay period the the same type of dvd should cost him a little under seven dollars.

it is a balance of what percentange of one's income can be afforded on entertainment.

Copyright and bootlegs also play a factor. If laws are not strict then anyone can make copies of a movie for a little above the cost of production. Do this in mass and even that small markup from cost can create a small fortune. Companies have offered limited edition packaging and extras to create a draw in countries where a dvd quality copy can be had for under 3 dollars.
