I'm glad to see 40YO Virgin is doing well. I hope to see it tonight. Decent numbers for Red Eye. Ouch for Valiant and Supercross.

It seemed like 40 year old version had a lot of interest among people I know, myself included, so I'm not shocked it's number one. In fact, its good to see Judd Apatow have theatrical success (if you don't count Anchorman). But I do miss his TV work...

Battle of the Birds:

New release Valiant can't beat March of the Penguins (out 2 months)

Ouch!

It's been a tough summer for Ewan McGregor. The Island bombs and it looks like Valiant will not be a huge success. He is the voice of the main character. It's way too early to tell, but according to Friday's numbers, it doesn't look to good.

Yeah too bad he wasn't in a Star Wars movie or something...

Yeah I know it could have been Gilbert Gottfried as Obi-Wan and it STILL would have made $380 million... probably even more, now that I think about it. Gottfried as a Jedi? Dude thats money in the bank! And think about the groin

I was hoping it'd pull in Wedding Crashers-like numbers, but it's still good to see 40 Year Old Virgin reign supreme.

Hopefully it has the legs Wedding Crashers has been able to produce for the past month or so.

I never had any expectation of those kinds of numbers, so I'll take a 20+ mil opening. Especially since there's no famous stars in the movie or behind the camera. It's about damn time Judd Apatow achieved the type of success he's deserved for the last 13 years. And yes, I know Anchorman was a modest sized hit, but he actually directed this movie so I really wanted it to do well.

It doesn't really matter. Disney picked up the film for a small fee, and while big box office is always welcomed, the true performance for the film will be on home video. Theatrical is just a pit stop, much like a JUNGLE BOOK 2 or the HEFFALUMP film.

S. Koreans seem to love those high gloss action flicks.

Glad the movie grew some legs over seas, it isn't a masterpiece but it deserved better than it got.

Interesting. The movie looks pretty good, but for some reason since it did so so bad here, I'll just wait for it on DVD. Strange, but that's my thought process.

It'll make a profit after DVDs, pretty much every movie does...

Supercross pulled in a whopping $450,000 on Friday. Why did they give this movie a Wednesday release?

why didn't they push valiant more? Could have done huge if families actually knew about it.

While at the movie theater, I overheard a mom and her 2 kids talking about how bad "Valiant" was. This movie is probably going to have very short legs (plus the critics didn't much like it all that much either).

Maybe when news reports talk about Valiant had short legs, they will be inventive and say 'short wings'.

So the heat from the bad reviews would pass by before the prime weekend moviegoing time.

And it looks like Valiant will barely edge out Jonah: A Veggietale Movie for the title of lowest opening weekend for a CGI-animated kid's film.

And I loved Jonah: A Veggietale Moviebetter, the other movie did not even give it a Valiant effort.
