Best BUBBLEGUM song?

Most come from the 60's - many consider Ohio Express the best, with both Yummy, Yummy, Yummy and Chewy Chewy, and 1910 Fruitgum Company is a close runner-up (Simon Says).

1969's Sugar, Sugar by The Archies was the #1 song of the year, plus you had Tommy Roe with Dizzy that same year (his earlier bubblegum hits include Sweet Pea and Sheila).

Lead singer of The Archies, Ron Dante, also fronted The Cufflinks, who had a Top 5 hit with Tracy the same week Sugar, Sugar was #1.

Would you consider Beach Baby by First Class a bubblegum song or a pop song?

What are some of your favorites?

In addition to those listed, Ohio Express' "Mercy" is good IMO. Another favorite of mine is "My Baby Loves Lovin" by White Plains.

discovered a great song!!

Lay A Little Lovin' On Me by Robin McNamara (one hit wonder, whose backing vocals are provided by the cast of Hair, of all things) is a GREAT song, and I just discovered it through a search that accidently lists the artist as Andy Kim & The Archies.

I consulted my Billboard Book of Top 40 Hits and it showed me that it was a #11 hit for McNamara in (I think) '69 or '70. Cute little catchy tune.

Also, I love I'm gonna Make You Mine by Lou Christie, even though I hate the rest of his catalog of songs.

The Cowsills scored a nice bubblegum hit with Indian Lake in '68 (remember that The Cowsills was a family of five kids with their mother, who were later modelled for The Partridge Family)

I gotta go with "1-2-3 Red Light". Vaguely sinister lyrics if you think about it.

Beach Baby is a great song and it's sung by Tony Burrows. Varese put out a cd of the songs he sang under various band names.

It was Vol. 5 in the series and it looks like these are OOP. Amazon or eBay will provide.

Another great release is the Wombles. A cartoon show from the UK. There's a two or three disc set out there that has an amazing variety of music styles on there.

Also the book "Bubblegum Is The Naked Truth" by Kim Cooper is an excellent read with lots of short stories, lists, etc. Highly recommended.
