The Mask of Zorro: Deluxe Edition 10.18.05

paraphrased from the bits

We've got a few quick new DVD announcements for you from Sony to start the new week off right. On 10/18, look for the studio to release a new The Mask of Zorro: Deluxe Edition. The Mask of Zorro will grace the UMD format on 10/18 as well.

Note this for everyone buying the superbit version for cheap at BB this week. No features have been announced. I assume a free movie ticket is in order. This could aslo have the superbit transfer (like the Leon release.)

Title: The Mask of Zorro
Starring: Antonio Banderas
Released: 18th October 2005
SRP: $19.94

Further Details
Columbia Tristar Home Entertainment has released very early details on a deluxe edition of The Mask of Zorro which stars Antonio Banderas, Anthony Hopkins and Catherine Zeta-Jones. This new disc will be available to own from the 18th October this year, and should set you back around $19.94. I'm afraid Columbia has yet to reveal the extra material, although I'm sure you can expect plenty of features to tie in with the new movie! We'll bring you the full specs, along with the official artwork, shortly. Stay tuned.

That'd be cool if it has the Superbit transfer.

I got the SB version when BB was doing their buy Spidey 2 SB and another SB to get one SB free. Good deal at the time.

I enjoy this movie, but I dont think I need all the SE material. The SB presentation is great so ill stick with it.

That was the Special Edition, which was released back around 2001 or so. Then there was the Superbit Deluxe version, which had a Superbit disc one (losing the commentary) and all the same features on disc two. And now, this. What more can they do? Probably useless fluff about the sequel (a la Men In Black: DE and the Spider-Man: DE). Apparently, in Sony's terms, "Deluxe Edition" means "Pimping For Sequel Edition."

We definitely don't need a 4th version of this dvd. I'm just gonna get the SB for $10.

I'll consider triple-dipping if that is one of the features.

From what I've read the video on the "Leon" Superbit doesn't really seem to be any better than the regular "Uncut International Version". You just get DTS, but that doesn't seem to be much different than the DD either.

The video is much better on "The Fifth Element" Superbit (both versions) when compared with the non-Superbit.

The Superbit Deluxe looks and sounds fantastic. No need for me to triple-dip.

With the pricepoint, it seems like a one disc edition also. Another useless quadruple dip by Sony.

Well, I haven't picked up any of these discs yet for Mask of Zorro, so I guess I'll wait and see what the specs are for this and then make my choice then.

If it's dirt cheap, I'll get it for the commentary track missing from the Superbit; that'll make three copies of this film for me to own on DVD...sheesh...

I currently have the SE but I will consider buying this if it is a Superbit version, I can get it from Columbia House, and it contains a free movie ticket.

The greedy execs at Sony must have a wager with Fox and Universal to see who can release the most double dips.

I'll stick with the double disc SE.
