New UK releases, restored/remastered/extras, incl Upstairs, Downstairs & Space1999
Upstairs Downstairs Series One, digitally restored and with commentaries on Board Wages (Terrence Brady and Charlotte Bingham), A Suitable Marriage (George Innes) and I Dies From Love (Terrence Brady, Charlotte Bingham and Evin Crowley). This set will also contain the first part of The Story of Upstairs Downstairs – a specially-commissioned documentary on the making of the series which will be spread over all five volumes.
Space: 1999 Series One – released to coincide with the thirtieth anniversary of its original UK transmission, the episodes will look stunning as they are being sourced from brand new (4:3) HD transfers taken from the original 35mm interpositives, made especially for this release. This set will also contain featurettes on special effects, the writers and the series design as well as commentaries on various episodes with Gerry Anderson, Sylvia Anderson, Zenia Merton, Johnny Byrne and Chris Penfold as well as a demo version of Barry Gray’s main theme, trailers for the movie versions and the Clapperboard two-part special on the work of Gerry Anderson from 1975. More extras are currently being worked on for this release.
Also from Network: Black Narcissus – arguably Powell and Pressburger’s finest film, this release is taken from the new, digitally restored HD transfer of the film and looks absolutely wonderful.
and
The Naked Civil Servant, digitally restored and with a specially-recorded commentary by John Hurt, Verity Lambert and Jack Gold. This release also includes an edition of Seven Men – a profile of Quentin Crisp from 1971, Mavis Catches Up With Quentin Crisp and a PDF of Philip Mackie’s original script.
