Beautiful Boxer 8/9

I know there is a thread about this in the International DVD section but I just found out that this movie was being released this Tuesday.

Based on the true story of Thailand's famed transgender kickboxer, Beautiful Boxer is a poignant action drama that punches straight into the heart and mind of a boy who fights like a man so he can become a woman. Believing he's a girl trapped in a boy's body since childhood, Parinya Charoenphol sets out to master the most masculine and lethal sport of Thai boxing to earn a living and to achieve his ultimate goal of total femininity. Touching, funny and packed with breathtaking Thai kickboxing sequences, Beautiful Boxer traces Nong Toom's childhood, teenage life as a traveling monk and grueling days in boxing camps.
I just wanted to get the word out about this film.

This is a terrific movie that deserves a larger audience - incredibly well-acted.

Very true. As uncomfortable as I felt through certain parts of the film .. it really ended up to be a well played out drama - crashing through some fairly large stereotypes. I have to say that it was not what I expected going in.

I could definately see some out there leaving unappreciative of this film, but hey .. maybe they'd at least get into the fight sequences, which were pretty good.

I won't be picking this release up as I have the R3 gmm release .. but I'd recommend at least a rental for the R1'ers.

Anyone know if this is a trimmed down version? - not that it's needed.

Don't put any stock into the specs you see at the DDD link, the TLA website seems to indicate it will be anamorphic widescreen. As for the film (which I checked out on an import DVD), I thought the acting was more than a little hit and miss early on but improved measurably once they got warmed up. Still, a definite from me for the movie; I certainly enjoyed it.
