Mind Game -- Can't recommend this enough.
I was a little torn on posting here or in movies. However since it's available on DVD with subs at yesasia and the coupon from dvdtalk is still good, it's a great time to pick it up.
Got it after reading Serdar's review. I noticed in eXcentris' post about the Fantasia film festival that this one cleaned up a lot of the categories. Not surprising at all. The animation is really mind blowing jumping from one end of the spectrum of crude sketches to the other end of photorealism and back in an instant.
I really can't recommend this enough to any anime fan or someone looking for a great movie in general (vague shades of Run Lola Run as well -- there are probably better cinematic influences but I couldn't name them offhand).
Please check it out!

I saw this at the New York Asian Film Festival back in June, and I also recommend it to the fullest. So imaginative and lively.. I have to pick up the DVD one of these days. Too bad that Perfect Box is so expensive, it looks sexy.

I don't think it was ever released outside of Japan. I'd like to claim Mind Game redefined my feelings about anime, but as amazing as it was, there doesn't seem to be much else even remotely as good.

I agree - MIND GAME is currently one of the greatest Japanese animated films ever...
Still only available as an excellent anamorphic, English subtitled Japanese DVD.

Looking at the link from TheDoug though - the new Australian release is cheaper and presumably all the extras are subbed - not the case on the older R2J release. Might be worth checking out - or as a double dip in my case.

Ya the Australian one is what I ended up going with. Just watched the film today and thought it was excellent. Can't wait to see Genius Party.
