New Disturbed CD 10,000 Fists (9/20/05)

I'm surprised no one has posted it yet.

I'm not too much into the "nu-metal" stuff, but I love this band. I've heard the new CD already (yeah another one leaked early) and I think its a little heavier than Believe, but still doesn't beat The Sickness. They do a really good cover of Genesis' Land of Confusion on the new record too.

I'll definitely be picking this one up Sept. 20th!

I don't think it's hyped alot because it sounds exactly like their last two albums. For me they are one of those bands like Godsmack. I respect them, but you could shuffle all the songs from their previous albums, place them on one disc and they would all fit together.

Cool. Thanks for the post. I love The Sickness and their last one was underrated in my opinion. Definitely one of my favorite bands over the last few years.

I really liked The Sickness, but Believe wasn't all that great. It had a couple good songs, but nothing fun like Sickness. Their live show has gotten too big for them as well. They need to keep it to theaters, stay out of arenas.

10,000 Fists?? For a minute I thought I was in Adult Talk.

I've heard 3 or 4 songs off of this and thought they were pretty good.

Land of Confusion is pretty good, but I think it needs more "Disturbed grunting" I took a listen to the rest of the songs and it sounds pretty good.

However I may be jaded as Disturbed is one of my favorite groups along with Godsmack.

I will be picking this up when it comes out.

Saw them live on the original 'Music as a Weapon' tour, thought they was okay.. Picked up 'Believe' and while it was no masterpiece, it was still one of the better nu-metal cds.. I've listened to the advance copy of the cd and it seems like more of the same. I am sure that I will pick the actual copy up and give it a few spins, but I'm not overly excited about it.

That part's great, although when he goes "AHK AHK!" it sounds like he's trying to cough something up. I'm partial to Liberate, Prayer, and The Sickness, myself.

While I loved The Sickness, for me Believe is a far superior album. The music is more intricate and they let the melody take over, bringing in more of a classic metal sound. It's easily one of my favorite albums. I've heard Ten Thousand Fists, and it's a great combination of their first two cds. The melody and intricacy of Believe is still there, but they bring more of the heavier sound and the "noises" into the mix as well, not to mention some killer guitar solos spread throughout the disc. Many people liked the sound of The Sickness or Believe, but not both. If you're in that camp, this disc gives you some of both. If you liked both of their first albums, then you should really dig this one. I still think Believe is a superior album, but Ten Thousand Fists is definitely a solid follow-up.

I'm quite partial to the track "Overburdened." It's almost operatic in nature and is an excellent showcase for Draiman's vocals.

Anyone know what's additional in the "Special Addition" of the CD? All I can find so far is that it looks like its going to be in a DVD-sized case.

Special Edition:

I haven't seen the special edition advertised anywhere but the regular edition seems to be $9.99 most places this week. I will definitely pick this up. Wonder what's different about the SE?

Some of the ads mention the SE next to the regular CD.

It's not mentioned in the big 3 (Target, Best Buy, or Circuit City). I just double-checked.

Best Buy mentions a Disturbed fan pack for $24.99 which includes a T-shirt, fan club crap but no cd.

If someone finds out what it is & how it is different please post here.

This is from Disturbed's official site:

"Warner Bros. will also be offering a limited edition of the album on the week of September 26th. The special edition is said to include a 24-page booklet containing special artwork from Todd McFarlane. More details following shortly."

I think I'll just pay $10 for the regular edition.

Review by Johnny Loftus
It started in 2000 with "Down With the Sickness." Disturbed's thick, rhythmic take on alt metal was perfect music for stalking bloody zombies, and vocalist David Draiman's jaw-snapping Pavlovian grunts made the trigger fingers of first person shooters itch. There were threads of other groups in the sound - Pantera's wrenching power, Slipknot, the ill-lit parlor games of Tool. But Disturbed held their own from the start, so get up, come on get down with the sickness. If 2002's Believe downplayed Draiman's guttural responses a little, that tact's long gone for 2005's Ten Thousand Fists. From Todd McFarlane's evocative wronged misfits artwork - Suicide Girls stand fists upraised next to ghoulish fiends and disenfranchised truckers - to the rousing staccato of the title track and the "Sickness" rewrite "Stricken," Disturbed solidifies their stance as the black nights of gaming console rock. Creepy electronics slither behind Dan Donegan's guitar, and he mostly forsakes soloing to concentrate on the visceral groove. When he's not hacking like a chained-up pit bull Draiman emotes from the valley of reverb (that's next to valley of death), and his moments of epic roar make the songs' choppier parts more effective. Now, "Overburdened" takes the epic stuff a little too far. Draiman starts off the song in narration, muttering "Fate is so unkind" like a monster who's been given the power to feel. But even in its swirling pretentiousness, you can't deny his intensity. Luckily the majority of Fists sticks to mid-tempo punishers that pound back anger gritted teeth and no anesthesia. (Remember, Disturbed's tours are underwritten by Jagermeister, the black licorice firewater that punches Saturday night in the face.) "Deify" rails against blind devotion to political leaders and "Sons of Plunder" stalks at a faster, more aggressive faster heart rate, while "Decadence" and "Sacred Lie" drop into the rhythmic grip that by mid to late-album is almost comfortable in its gloomy thump. (Disturbed's ill-advised cover of Genesis' "Land of Confusion"? No comment.) Ten Thousand Fists does start to sound the same after awhile. But those bloody zombies aren't going to stop pouring though the doorway, so it's a good thing it has at least twelve burly alt metal rockers. Fire!

Review from allmusic.com.

Well, I bought my first Disturbed CD and I must say that I really like it. I only have a couple of singles off their first couple albums, and it's true that some of these songs sound a bit similar, but that's one of the things I like about it. The thing i like about Disturbed is that you hear one of their songs and you know it's them. Maybe I'm a bit naive in the whole nu-metal genre, but I've never really heard anyone quite like them before. In my book, that's a plus.

So, did anyone pick this up? I bought my copy at the end of last week (just bought the regular version). I haven't listened to it too much yet but the first several songs are excellent. It seems to wind down a little toward the end.

My favorite song on the album so far is "Deify."

It seems the songs are not as catchy on this one as their first two releases (especially the first one) but it still sounds really good. Their cover of "Land of Confusion" is decent but no where near as good as their cover of Tears for Fears' "Shout."

Yeah, Deify is really good. I really wasn't looking forward to this album, as I felt cheated by Believe. But its good, glad my sister bought it though, I just put it on my ipod.

I like the previous two Disturbed CDs better, but this one seems good too. Most of the songs are just not as catchy as the previous albums. My favorite song on the album is Stricken.

Any particular reason why they are playing small venues?
