Rachel Nichols (The Inside) joins the cast of Alias! (Spoilers)

Jennifer Garner says:
I think it’s time for Sydney to grow up and be in a position of teaching someone younger. J.J. and I have talked about this a lot - because I don’t necessarily buy that she’s the wide-eyed innocent anymore at this point, so I’m interested to see her be almost the ‘handler’ for somebody new.
From the Post-Gazette:
Syd's preggers on 'Alias'

"Alias" will be among the series in the Thursday-night dogfight, but fans can expect some changes, according to writer Breen Frazier. At Saturday's Writer's Guild of America cocktail reception, Frazier said star Jennifer Garner's pregnancy will be written into the series: Sydney Bristow will be pregnant, and Michael Vaughn (Michael Vartan) will be the father.

"We are opening up whole new areas with his character," Frazier said. The new season will reveal what Vaughn has been investigating with the help of a rogue female intelligence agent.

Frazier said the pregnancy will give Syd "new stakes." With a pregnant Garner unable to do as much stunt work, a young CIA trainee, played by Rachel Nichols of "The Inside," will "allow us to see how Syd became Syd." A new male character will be added to the cast to replace series regular Greg Grunberg, who will depart. Actresses Mia Maestro and Lena Olin will both return for some appearances, but Lauren Reed (Melissa George) is out of the picture for good.

"She was definitively killed in season three," Frazier said.

She's cute but needs to show better acting skills in Alias than what she did on "The Inside".

I think she's a fine actress (in more ways than one) and the producers on Alias must have seen something special in her to make her a regular. The character she played on The Inside was meant to be emotionally closed off. Tim Minear himself has said she originally played the character with much more spunk be he felt that it wasn't right for the arc he was developing and reshot the pilot. So, strictly speaking, Nichols was doing her job in bringing to the screen what the creator wanted. Whether you like or identify with the character is another story but, IMO, she did a great job.

Did The Catch get picked up? That's the only reason I can think of for Grunberg leaving.

The first two episodes of the Inside was enough for me. Whether she's a good actress or not, I can't debate that with you yet since that was the first time I saw her in anything. But I still stand by my comments in regards of her "acting" on the show.

Blehhhhh. If they were going to bring somebody over from the train wreck known as "the inside" why couldn't it have been Adam Baldwin???

I've watched every episode of Alias for the past 4 seasons, and I can honestly say I think I'm glad I'll be watching Survivor on Thursday nights instead. I still might catch it when it comes out on dvd.

The new male role has yet to be cast, there still is a chance.

So I guess Vaughn is coming back?

if they are gonna make syd preggers, i can't see this lasting much longer. i know that jack and irina raised a child as spies, but i can't see the powers that be making this work after she delivers. however, i reserve the right to be wrong.

Nope, it didn't. I think that it was still being shopped around, but with no luck.

season 4 was just as good as s2, imo. Can't say I'm happy that Weiss is leaving the show, but it doesn't mean he'll be gone for good.

I wish Maxim's pictures were bigger. They have no size to them whatsoever. THis should be interesting to see how it plays out. I've got a feeling it's going to go even more Mission: Impossible sooner rather than later unless a solid new story line develops.

With it in its third timeslot in three years, and that new timeslot being Thursday at 8:00, it was pretty much dead before Jennifer Garner got pregnant...

I find it tough to believe The Catch hasn't been picked up (even if it DOES star Don Rickles)! With LOST chugging along networks should be lined up for the next J.J. Abrams project. Wierd.
