March of the Penguins

Have been looking foward to seeing this and needless to say I was not dissapointed. It is an amazing story about survival, love and courtship of the Emperor Penquins.

Wish it was playing around here. I've been waiting for it for a while.

saw it opening weekend. i thought it went a little overboard on the personification of these little guys. i am perfectly capable of drawing lessons from the story and how they apply to me without having Morgan Freeman's narration beating the point home. good, but i definitely preferred Winged Migration and MicroCosmos.

I fear the obnoxious studio hype is trying to turn this tiny film into a religious experience. The film is a great snapshot of life down below, but it doesn't go much further than the average cable/PBS documentary.

Well put, and I couldn't agree more. Some sweeping visuals make it theater worthy, but not something I'd feel the need to watch again anytime soon.

do you guys know the french version of this featured voices dubbed over the penguins, giving the movie a comedic tone, ala milo and otis?

I look forward to seeing this version of the film, what with all the
Spoiler:
frozen eggs and dead babies.

I'm curious on how they work through that material and still maintain consistent tone.

This film finally hit Atlanta, and it's a mesmerizing look at the arduous process penguins endure to bring forth new life. It was a fascinating documentary about the penguin's tremendous struggle, in spite of the incredibly cold climate in the south pole, and the long distances between their mating grounds and the seas (food), just to keep their species alive.

If it's playing in your city, it's worth a trip to the theaters.

I give it a 3.5 stars, or a grade of B+.

(BTW, the thread title misspells "penguins" (penquins), so searching won't turn up this thread)

I'm going to come off as a ***** for asking this, but is there depressing stuff in the movie (like penguins dying)?I am overly sensitive when it comes to animals and the last thing i want is to get a little misty in a theater. If so,i will just wait for DVD.

Yes, it's part of the cycle to procreate. Life and death go hand and hand, especially in the harsh elements of the south pole.

It's okay to shed a tear or two in a threater. It shows you're also alive as well.

Turned up for me because I searched for entire posts, not just thread titles.

It's not my intent to trash it...but isn't this the kind of thing you see on Animal Planet or PBS for free?

PBS = some British guy you've never heard of.

It's as cinematic as any movie I've ever seen.

I usually just use the "Search this forum" dropdown box. The point remains, the title has a misspelling in it which will impact those who dutifully attempt a search on this film's title.
