Rescue Me 7/12/05

Tommy looks to his cousin Mickey (now an ex-priest) for help in understanding the bizarre visions he's been having since he quit drinking. When Lou allows a disagreement with Laura to escalate, the crew tries to help Laura understand the essence of male camaraderie. Tommy is put in harm's way during a fire when a miscommunication happens between Chief Reilly and Mike 'the Probie'. Tommy's dad is shocked when Teddy turns up in the last place he would ever expect.

Was it just me, or during Tommys 'binge' sequence at the end, was Jesus mouthing 'Fucking motherfucker' at one point?

I thought 'cwat'. And the ensuing name-spewing must have just made the FCC's day.

Monkey-boy brought the funny this ep.

I wonder how much longer he can stay off of the wagon.

And trading shots w/ the cop.

The whole kitchen scene was great.

Garrity was great this episode. I liked it when he asked Laura which of the two names she prefered

Great episode. I found my self rooting for Tommy not to fall off the wagon. I know he'd be a lot funnier when he's drunk, but I kept rooting against that.

He called you the b-word?
No.
The c-word?
No.
Oh, he called you a TWAT.

lol

I was kind of surprised Sean and Mike ran to help the cat. I'd have expected them to just run away. Interesting twist for Mike with the new chick; I guess we're going to see some strap-on action.

Great episode, as always. The very last scene left my heart in my throat.

Glad to see Tommy staying away from the bottle; with every passing episode, there is more invested in how long he has gone without alcohol, so that just makes his inevitable fall that much more depressing.

Jesus - Brett Bozell and the PTC will go apeshit if they see this episode, btwn the language and the blasphemy.

So much funny in this episode. Loved Tommy's brother's comment about religion - something like: "I'm not talking about the scary religion we got growing up; I'm talking about the real God."

Franco talking to his drug supplier girlfriend. Wow, what an ass though.

Probie moving from fat chicks to amazons.

I just about fell out of my chair when his cousin said that. "Not the scary Catholic God we grew up w/..."

Tommy's speech in the kitchen was a great piece of writing and an excellent delivery. He should get an emmy nod for that speech alone.

Fantastic show.

So raunchy, yet so eloquent.

He bought it for his mom, so I think he'd probably have the proper paperwork.

Such a great episode. I mean, who comes up with ideas to make the uncle a plus size model.

This show is on fire. This season is seriously streamlined and to the point. They are whittling down on the goofy subplots and incorporating the humor into the important stories. They aren't fucking around with these storylines. Great tv.

ETA: Sorry for the lame unintentional pun in the first line.

Very cool montage with what would have happened if Tommy had went into the liquor store. VERY well done.

Not quite getting the whole "Jesus wants a sandwich" thing, but other than that the show is better every week...

How about the probie only knowing Clint Eastwood from Million Dollar Baby.

Nothing like that has ever happened to me when I bring my cat to the vet.

Of course my vet is a 50 year old guy, not a 6' 2" blond so I wouldn't want it to happen.

What did she call the cat? A paperweight with fur? Or a doorstop?

She said the cat was paperweight two seconds after the bullet hit it.

I love this show - Dennis Leary is an incredibly talented actor - and the writing on this show is superb. The whole c v. t word thing was great - it really showed how different men and women approach situations like that, and how if you're going to be in a testosterone-heavy environment you've really got to lighten up and get a thick skin. Context is everything - in that situation she really messed up (even though it wasn't totally her fault) and you need to own up to it. She also needs to realize that if she really wants to be treated like an equal and respected in that type of environment then she needs to be the one to change, not them. Do your job, do it well, relate to them as one of the guys, and it'll all be much easier than getting your knickers in a twist over racial or sexist epithets. Do I think that kind of behavior is good or nice? Hell no. Do I think it happens? All the time. And if I were to put myself in a position where I wanted to be treated the same as any other firefighter, I'd ignore the stuff I disliked (without being snooty about it). She can't have it both ways - one of the guys AND being treated with the "normal" respectful language and behavior that women expect in today's society. She'll either get treated the same, which apparently involves name calling, practical jokes, swearing, etc., or she'll be treated with kid gloves and be sneered at behind her back for being such a prissy bitch.

I love how this show challenges behaviors that are offensive to get to the root of why things bother us, what we can/should do about it, how to get past socialized racism/sexism, etc.

And I too am rooting for Tommy to stay off the wagon - he's pretty damn funny drunk or sober.
