Les Quatre Cents Coups (400 Blows) - question

What DVD of this would you reccomend?
The Criterion looks excellent nut unfortunately only seems available as part of the Antoine Doinel box. The UK R2 has weak extras compared to the other releases, but which has the best presentation (and is good for an English speaker like me)?

MK2? Is that from France?
Does the short feature "Les Mistons" (and the main film ) have good English subs there? I dont think any of the other extras do.

Is the commentary in English or French with subs (or sans subs)? According to DVD Compare.net its' in English..

That looks better than the UK edition.

The criterion looks amazing. The whole antoine doinel box is awesome. I do like the sequels too. It's less apparently with foreign films, but if you get the PAL version it will have 4% speed up. perhaps dvdbeaver.com has a comparison as far as picture quality, I haven't looked yet.

I'm surprised they put "Les Mistons" instead of "Antoine and Collette" on the MK2 disc (perhaps a rights issue, but seems strange). I think I recall seeing the "MK2" logo on the Criterion packaging, for whatever that's worth.

If you can get a good deal on the Criterion set, low enough to justify going this route (not sure how much shipping from US vs. France will set you back), then I'd definitely recommend it. You get all four feature length Doinel films, plus "Antoine and Collette" and even "Les Mistons". You get the Lacheney commentary on "The 400 Blows", plus the Stonehill commentary, the Canne premiere (Leaud interview), several docus on Truffaut, auditions, etc. And that's just on "The 400 Blows" disc (except "Les Mistons", which is on an "extras" disc). IMO, one of the best sets Criterion has released.

Antoine and Collete

Antoine and Collete is on the MK2 Stolen Kissess dvd. Which is fine since it takes between the two films.
