This is apparently why the Criterion versions went out of print. I found the listing on Fangoria's "Video Chopping List", but there is nothing about these on Image's site yet. It's not likely that the commentary tracks will be carried over to the new releases (unless Image can make a deal with Criterion) but nice, new anamorphic transfers are almost certain. Hopefully there will be other goodies too. When I heard that the Criterion versions were going OOP, I was hoping that was happening for a reason like this, so I didn't buy them.

hold on to them until they announce features...commentaries and all....since criterion won't re-release these you can still sell them to the completist

This was my sig line for a long time. I wonder how many "WTF"s it got. If they release the 3D version, I may check it out. Otherwise, I will probably skip them.

They did release a couple of Something Weird compliations that included some red/blue anaglyph footage, but you wouldn't want to see FRANKENSTEIN converted into that poor format.

The film is intended to be viewed through clear polarized glasses in SpaceVusion format. An anaglyph conversion would be unwatchable.

Field Sequential format (using shutter glasses) is the best way to approximate the polarized experuence at home, and it would be great if they included that option on the disc as well as the inevitable flat version, but I doubt it. They should though, as a thousand bootlegs of the 3-D version are already out there, and they could curb that market in a second if they chose to.

But Image lists criterion's on their site as well...so i'm asking for clarification on that. For instance, look at their march line-up:

Jules at Jim is noted only as a "Special Edition" just as these are listed by fangoria. This makes me think that they are in fact going to be rereleased by Criterion.

Image and Criterion are not the same company. The confusion comes from the fact that Image distributes Criterion, along with a lot of other smaller companies. That's where the connection is. Image and Criterion are both owned by different, unrelated companies.

I understand that....but again, if you look at the Image site's calender of releases, Criterion titles are listed as "Special Edition" in parentheses after the titles: just as these two titles are listed on Fangoria's site. So it stands to reason that they saw a release schedule that said "Flesh For Frankenstein (Special Edition)" and "Blood For Dracula (Special Edition)" and listed them accordingly. Since only Criterion's are listed in this manner on the Image release schedule, it would seem to me that they are going to be remasterd Criterion discs from the evidence at hand. Capiche?

Try doing a search for "Special Edition" at the Image site. You'll get a lot more than just Criterion titles. Last I checked, for example, "Bad Girls Go To Hell/ Another Day Another Man (Special Edition)" was not a Criterion title.

Or do an advanced search for all Criterions and you'll see that most of them actually aren't marked Special Edition. Probably just the few you looked at.

It was a nice theory brizz, but it doesn't hold up.

These don't have subtitles, I wonder if they have closed-captioning? The Criterions didn't have either. I hate listening to commentaries without having some kind of words on the screen.
