Best reciever under $300 to drive 5.1 for TV?
Moving into a new house at will be putting in a 5.1 surround package in the great room. The previous owners are taking their bose setup. So sad I am thinking about replacing with the Energy Act 6 setup. I will only be driving the speakers for the tv playing dvds and satelite. What is a good receiver under $300 that will produce good clean sound.
I considered putting my Denon 3802 there and buying a new 7.1 reciever for the bonus room but then I am talking about $1000 for a new reciver there. This approach is more economical for now.

People really seem to like the Panny digital receivers for their sound capabilities. I haven't heard any myself to make a useful comment. Well under $300, though.
Why is it sad to see Bose go out the door? Did you need some target practice or something?

I know you said under $300 but the problem w/ that price point is you give up features or quality. I recommend the Sony 3000ES at $499 it is a bargain, I paid closer to the MSRP. It has digital amplification and sounds fantastic, if your TV has component inputs it has video upconversion, it has tons of connections, nice remote, etc, etc. Nice piece with a 5 year factory warranty. Hard to beat at the current price. http://ww1.onecall.com/PID_19686.htm

You could always look at the Onkyo line - like this one: http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Onkyo...oductDetail.do

My 1st choice would be this,

2nd choice would be one of the Onkyo's.
BTW, I read so much about those Panny's I went and listened. Now it was not the best set up, but I was very, very un-impressed. I thought the sound was rather bright, edgy and not much depth to the sound. It did seem to have decent power, but for all the talk, I was not impressed. To be fair, I have always favored a warmer sound with depth and solid but not strained highs.

Thanks for the input. The TV will be a Samsung DLP so upconversion is good but I am only connecting a dvd player and satelite with component already. Since I have already previously owned Sony, Pioneer and Denon I may try an Onkyo or HK just to see how they compare.
