My 100 favorite albums of all time!
I am a 34 year old male who lives in the USA.
Here's my list of my 100 favorite albums of all time:
http://rateyourmusic.com/lists/list_...st_id_is_11365
The list may take a while to load, so I suggest you shrink it in a separate window for a while, and let it load while you do something else.

Nice list, but you only have one album that you believe worthwhile after 1984? I'm not going to argue that the last twenty years have been the best in music ever, but I find it odd that only one made the cut.

I understand what you are saying.
But it is my list, so I can do anything that I want.
The Patty Smyth compilation contains some great songs that were never available on any actual albums. Some of those songs go back to the time in my life when I first started listening to popular music, and are so deeply embedded in my psyche, that I had to include it.
If you want Beatles songs like Hey Jude, Day Tripper, and She Loves you, a compilation is necessary. And I did list 7 actual albums by them, too.
None of the original albums by the Waitresses have ever been released on CD, and I buy CDs, so there's another compilation.
I listed 6 actual albums by the Rolling Stones, but I also listed one compilation for their very early stuff.
The early stuff by the Who and Sly and the Family Stone also got a compilation for each group, but I also included actual albums of their later work.
Otis Redding got a compilation, but I don't think he necessarily did themed albums anyway.
As I said, I do understand what you are saying. But it is my list. And I was pretty limited in the number of compilaitons that I included. I don't think the inclusion of a small number of well chosen compilations is a bad thing.

I've been thinking about that. Television is obsucre in the sense that they are never played on U.S. top 40 radio, or on MTV, or anything like that.
But to people who find out about music by reading music reviews, they are not obscure at all.
Thanks for looking at my list.

I just figured that if people were kind enough to look at my list and offer their comments, I should have the courtesy to offer some kind of a response. I was trying to address the things that people said, by offering my own explanations. I was not trying to be defensive.
I'll be more careful about how I say things. Thanks for telling me about that.

astral weeks at 97? seems like you just threw it on there because it is a seminal album. It belongs in any late 60's early 70's music lover's top 25. I am calling shenanigans on some of this list.

The Loverboy albums are some "guilty pleasure" stuff from my youth. I sometimes wonder what I would think of those albums if I were to hear them for the first time today.
Including 5 albums by Blondie, and 4 from Linda Ronstadt, plus the stuff from the Waitresses and Parry Smyth/Scandal is, I think, very different from what people usually expect to see on lists like these.
Also, I did not include Blonde On Blonde or Highway 61 Revisited or Blood On The Tracks Or The Basement Tapes. That also makes my list kind of unique!
And the only Fleetwood Mac album that I included is Mirage, which might seem kind of a strange choice to some people.
(I'm not trying to be defensive, by the way.)

Nice list.
I can't say I agree with some choices, but we're not all supposed to have the exact same taste.
You seem to really like the Rolling Stones, Blondie, Beatles and Linda Ronstadt. That itself makes it diverse with regards to music style - which is refreshing to see.
My only qualm is (as already mentioned) there aren't many newer albums. I used to be that way - but I went digging for artists who weren't as popular and delved into different genres to find more music to enjoy.
Thanks for sharing.

List seems decent. I could do without some of the things on it (Loverboy comes to mind) but most of it's pretty good, and it seems fairly diverse to me.

Pretty neat list!
You can also post your list at that website too. They have a message board and other features, too. I think you'd like it.

I'd have to say that if I was limited to only those 100 albums above for the rest of my life, I could do much worse.
Making my list is gonig to take a lot of time, but I will try it. I'll make A list of albums, but it won't be The List of albums --- that is to say, it won't be definitive.

Nice list. Some very good picks, some not so much. You really should sample some albums from the last 25 years. There is a lot of good stuff out there. Especially considering the music you seem to enjoy.
But hey, we like what we like.
