Looking for receiver with multiple component video inputs!

Hello folks,

I've used the search function and can't seem to find what I'm looking for - so I'm starting a new thread.

I'm looking for recommendations on an A/V Receiver with at least 5 component video inputs and 5 optical digital inputs.

Let me tell you what I have (or soon will have):

1. Multi-region dvd player
2. Progressive Scan dvd player
3. DVD Recorder with HDD
4. DirecTiVo unit

All of these devices have component video ouputs as well as optical digital outputs. I also have a ProJection Specialists Digital Component Video Converter.

From searching on the web, I find that most A/V Receivers have 2 or 3 component video inputs and it's just not enough for my purposes!

I know that there was a recent thread about receivers with the most amount of inputs/outputs but I can't seem to find it (perhaps it has been rotated off of the site's servers). There were a handful of pics uploaded into that thread and maybe I can get some ideas from them.

This is a great forum and I'd really appreciate any help that can be provided to me!

Your best bet would be to look for a switch box. I have never seen a receiver with that many inputs for component video.

I'll caveat this by saying this is your CHEAPEST option. But there are receivers with the inputs you need, but they are all above 1k. And that is underestimating it.

You may be better off trying to come up with a slight compromise. For example, why not get a quality multi-region prog scan player? That eliminates one. Many TVs have at least two component inputs. You can then use a receiver with three to switch and then plug one in directly to the TV. Then you are looking at a significantly reduced cost.

I've got a question that can probably be easily answered here. Is there any degradation in hooking up your component to your receiver, and then going out to the TV, or are you gonna get an "ever so slightly" better picture if you just go straight from your device (DVD, X-Box, whatever) to the TV?

Personally I would always prefer to route video straight to the display. Yes there is degredation, whether or not you can see it is another matter.

That's what I thought, and I have all my video inputs hooked directly to my TV. Thanks for the information!

I'd probably get the Audio Authority switcher and add it to a receiver. There are a couple receivers with 4 component inputs, none with 5 that I've seen. The Onkyo 1000 might be able to do 5 with a special configuration, but it is $4k or so.

Yeah, I checked also....no 5 component inputs. Check out www.onecall.com

They have good deals, pricematch anything almost too....have high-end stuff too.

I've used the Audio Authority switch mentioned above and it works perfectly for me. I'm using a Xbox, PS2, GC and dvd player.

Thats what I use with my projector & I love it! Now, I only use one input on my receiver & thats for the audio. Makes life easier. I simply turn on the component I want to watch & voila... that's it!

I use mine with:

Philips Region free DVD
Panasonic DVD Recorder w/Hard Drive
Sony Satellite Receiver
Zenith OTA HD Tuner

Sonic
