Here We Go Again: The Graduate 6/21
Just saw this listed at DVD Empire:
http://www.dvdempire.com/Exec/v4_ite...item_id=692349
Will this finally be the anamorphic special edition they should have done in the first place? Of course, that doesn't make any sense, as they just released that ridiculous bare bones non-anamorphic version in April, and this is nowhere near enough lead-time for a special edition.
Perhaps they'll do what they did with Throw Momma From The Train and quietly give this a new transfer?
Still, the answer is likely the simplest: the same disc as before, except now, on the back cover, it will say "the late Anne Bancroft." Good work, MGM/Sony.

The R2/PAL UK disc, with its anamorphic transfer and improved color timing (though PAL speedup), is sufficient for me until MGM awakens from its apparent stupor.
If the "new" version really does nothing more than attempt to capitalize on Anne Bancroft's death as a marketing ploy, we really should flood them with hate-mail.

I can't imagine that this is timed for Bancroft's death... unless I'm completely ignorant of how these things work. The release date is about 2 weeks after her death -- that doesn't seem to be enough ramp up time to create new packaging, alert retailers, ship product, etc. I think this must just be a coincidence.
I have no clue what this is, but I agree that it probably isn't anything to get too excited about. Like Richard Malloy, I'm happy with my R2 UK disc for now...

Weird indeed. My first thought was that this is a price reduction, but the MSRP is the same. This still isn't the 2-disc Collector's Edition that was rumored to come out together with Hoosiers and Spaceballs (both of which did receive 2-disc CEs). I'm waiting here, MGM!

Any word on this? I saw a copy of the Special Edition release in the store for 10 bucks and picked it up, forgetting the rumors of an actual honest-to-God Special Edition. But it sounds like that release is vaporware and I ought to hang onto the disc I bought. Is that the case?

It looks DVD Empire just got around to releasing the recent still-non-anamorphic/barebones disc that was reported on in April. Nothing new, it seems.
