Just curious what show you think holds up the best over time... Say if people 100 years now, were to watch "it" which would they enjoy the most.. Let's stick to US sitcoms from any era...

My thought was I Love Lucy.. I figure a show with technology like Star Trek might not because in 100 years, the tech could be obsolete

With Star Trek, its less about the technology and more about the storylines, thats why Honeymmoners and I Love Lucy work well today, the storylines about Husbands, Wives and hijinx have not changed too much, despite technologies change.

Gonna have to go with shows that are based more on characters than anything else. Shows like Seinfeld, Homicide, Scrubs, Shield, Arrested Development and a lot of the HBO stuff who's writing is based more on the characters than situations - you look at movies from 75 years ago, and the stuff that still holds up are the character-based ones. The same with TV shows. That's why most old shows don't hold up - they were mostly all plot/story based and the few that had character-based stuff (Lucy, Honeymoones, Dick VanDyke) are the only ones that still hold up.

I don't know if this is for people all over the country, but from where I come from The Andy Griffith show still holds up just as well today as when it first aired. I don't see that show letting up ANYTIME soon, or even at any point in my lifetime.
slop101, I think you hit the nail on the head. The character-based stuff will be forever. Just look at any number of character-based plays and novels from many years ago.

For what took place for the most part in a one room set, with minimal sets and props and with no rehearsal, almost 50 years later this show still hangs in there quite nicely.

I'm sitting here typing wearing loafers with no socks, a teal mesh t-shirt and a white linen sportcoat with the sleeves rolled up, so my vote goes to Miami Vice.

i think there will always be a fanbase for married with children.
it covers alot of ground and there will always be working class unrich people who can relate to the bundies... one of the few shows i like just as much as when i was younger now.

There will also always be love for M*A*S*H. I think people will still be watching reruns of it 50 years from now. They are in one setting away from the real world so it isn't dated by 70's styles, trends or fashions.
Same can almost be said of Cheers.

Back on topic - I think Seinfeld, The Simpsons and Friends will hold up. (Had you allowed non-American TV - I'd have added Absolutely Fabulous and Monty Python's Flying Circus which continues to influence television over 30 years later).
