Aiwa Receiver Power up problem

Only my second post here, need a little help. Just got a used Aiwa AV D57 dolby digital receiver - I know it's an older model and has no DTS, but it HAS a phono input and still have tons of LP's that I can't get on CD.

I hooked everything up correctly, but when I power it up, I only get a small red light on the left side of front panel. It did power up OK just for a quick test w/Star Wars 6 DVD, but when I shut it down - nothing - just that little red light. Aiwa tech guy couldn't help. Is this a power saving thing or what? is it DOA?

Anyone have any experience with the 5.1 Aiwa receivers? Can't find any links on the net to answer my ??

My old AIWA shelf system has that red standby light like yours does. Intermittment power supply issues suggest a transformer problem. It could be as easy as a loose solder joint or as bad a failing transformer. AIWA have issues with power transformers, mostly because they jam so much stuff into such a small space that it creates overheating problems.

Remember, this is just my theory after your description. However, considering the make and age of the unit, I personally would move on. I can reccommend some nice, higher quality units with DD/DTS for under $200 if you'd like.
