Pete Townshend on Limp Bizkit cover of Behind Blue Eyes
" The only other cover that comes to mind
is 'Behind Blue Eyes' by that Durst fellow.Suffice it to say that when I
first heard it I thought of the time I clubbed Abby Hoffman. It was an
embarrassing effort, and one that discredits a fine song."

Seriously though. Didn't he know that LB wasn't very good when he licensed out the song. Maybe if he didn't sell his catalogue to everyone who comes calling he wouldn't have to deal with shitty versions of old Who songs.

You don't have the right to prevent people from covering your songs. According to copyright law, other artists can do a cover version of your song so long as they change the song slightly and add some artistic flair. They do have to pay a hefty royalty to the original songwriter (not the performer or group), though.
So, before you jump on Townshend's case for "licensing" the song to LB, you consider that.
