Ismail Merchant of Merchant/Ivory Films Dead at 68
The man who helped make "A Room With a View", "Howards End", the "The Remains of the Day" passed away. He along with James Ivory, and Ruth Prawar Jhabvala virtually revived the period film for today's audiences. Its been awhile since they've had a "hit" but his movies certainly made their mark in film history. Their incredible production values, excellent scripts, direction, and overall good taste were a pleasure.

Yeah, I kinda guessed not too many people here would give a shit about someone who makes "movies for chicks". I still wanted to post it anyways. He's deserving of multiple posts.

DVD Talk Platinum Edition
Well, I think the Mechant/Ivory collaborations set some great benchmarks for period pieces and their work deserves to be recognised, but I can't say much else I'm afraid. I mean, I enjoyed Le Divorce, it had some flaws but overall it was well done (maybe because it's the only Kate Hudson performance I liked).
It's just been so long since I've seen any of their previous works. Maybe it's time to revisit them . . .
