The Contender 5/22/05

Last of the semis tonight with Jesse vs. Sergio.

Remember that the season finale is live on Tuesday with a third place match and the championship match.

The promo segment I saw during "The Twenty" before Revenge of the Sith exclusively focused on Peter and
Spoiler:
Sergio
, heavily indicating they'll be in the final fight.

nice, Sergio opened up the cut again.

That was a close round but I'll give it to Sergio so he's up 3-1

Round 5 for Jesse
Round 6 for Sergio

Jesse needs another knockout, or at least a knockdown for a 2 pt round

Sergio gets cut but Jesse can't knock him down so Sergio wins the fight

Not a bad fight but nowhere near as good as Peter and Alphonso's fight in my opinion.Hopefully the final bout will be a good one

Thought Jessie was going to pull off a comeback in the later rounds, but the Snake was tougher down the stretch in the last 2 rounds.

I think Peter should win, though, in the fight on Tuesday night.

My bet is on Peter. Sergio made a good showing with Jesse and demonstrated that he can take a punch but I think Peter would beat either one of them.

Anyone know how much time has elapsed since the end of taping and now? These guys were fighting on short rest for most of the tournament, so they've may have had months to train for this fight and may look like different fighters out there on Tuesday.

Also, will this be a 7 round fight (or longer?)

I'm guessing at least 2 months. I hope it's a 12 round fight.

I'm pretty sure it's been about 6 months but not positive.
It's been atleast as long as the shows been on the air though.
Even at the end talking about the "fallen fighters" you could tell they didn't know about Naj.

It's been close to 8 months. On boxrec.com the last official date of the fight between Jesse & #1 Daddy was on 9/24/04.

These guys will be fully healed so they'll have no excuses.

I'm pulling for Peter but I would be happy if Sergio won too...he's a good guy.

Decent fight. I was slight pulling for Jesse as I think he matches up better with Peter and will give a better fight.

I'm looking more forward to the bronze match with him and Alphonso than the championship.

I think they should have had done the fallen comrades tribute when Phonso was still there. I would have done that tribute and then have both fights on the same night. It just seemed like they were making those 3 the top 3 which is not the case.

Sergio is the man! That fight was awesome. Sergio is such a smart fighter. We're totally rooting for him, even though we have lots of respect for Manfredo.

It did give the guys a chance to say some really nice things about Alfonso. I'm looking forward to seeing that guy fight again. A real stand-up guy.

Jesse would be a much better boxer if he didn't keep waiting and looking for that chance to throw the upper cut. So much so that he falls behind in rounds. Sergio used his height and reach and kept Jesse off balance enough with his jabs and smartly stayed away in the last round.

The better boxer definitely won.

Odd that they never mentioned the "Bronze Medal" match between Jesse and Alphonso.
