I made mine out of plumbers pipe parts and plexiglass all from Home Depot. Total cost? About $15.00 (but that included a large piece of plexiglass that I only used 1/4 of). It is strong and adjustable. You can see some pictures here;

Basically it is floor flange attached to ceiling
Pipe nipple (length determined by your needs) to floor flange on ceiling
2nd floor flange attached to bottom of nipple
2nd floor flange attached to piece of plexiglass
plexiglass attached to project with appropriate screws AND nuts

In reality you want to do two seperate steps on floor flange and pipe nipple in ceiling. One floor flange attached to flexiglass/projector. Then you can screw on the whole thing to the pipe nipple. Use the nuts to make small changes in height and/or level. For an eight foot ceiling you can barely see it. Post a reply if your really interested and I'll see if I still have the detailed instructions (I found this at another site).

If you don't want to DIY (the above took me all of 45 minutes), I actually saw a decent looking one at Best Buy for $90.00. It was "universal". But it looked big to me and I wondered how it would work for 8' ceilings let alone any thing shorter.
