need help picking a new Subwoofer

My NHT SW-10 subwoofer just died and I am trying to figure out which subwoofer I should get to replace it. My subwoofer is out of warranty so rather than spend the money to repair it I am just going to get a new one. right now I am thinking of either getting the newer model of the one I had the sw-10ii or going with the SVS pb10-isd but I am open to suggestions of other models. the Subwoofer is going in my bedroom and is attached to a Harman kardon avr-525 and the rest of the speakers are NHT also.

While I happen to have a Paradigm, the highest recommended tend to be SVS and HSU, in that order.

There are forums for both at http://www.hometheaterspot.com

Velodyne is never a bad choice either.

Don't let a dealer tell you that certain subs have to go with certain systems. If you set up your system properly for home theater, you won't be able to hear tonal differences. Only accuracy, power, and depth. I have SVS, also. If you look at SV or HSU, you may want to look at the cylinders, they take up less floor space.

how powerful are the cylinders, I want a good subwoofer but dont want to go too overboard. I looked at their site and was thinking about the 25-31 or the 20-39.

I also looked at the HSU VTF-2 MK 2 and it seems pretty good also.

so I guess right now I am trying to decide between the SVS or the HSU

I've had the 2039PC+ for 2 years. It is insane. It is 1m tall by 17" diameter. I've had it tuned to a 16Hz low-end cutoff, which means it can do 14Hz about the same level as 16 and up. If I choose to, I can get it to well over 100db at any frequency in my room. And that's measured at 13' away from the sub. Accurate as can be, too. It's actually for sale, but looks like you are looking for a cheaper version.

The standard PC subs can't be tuned as low, and have a couple fewer db output. But all SV subs are accurate and sound awesome. Only the raw output and a couple features get better as the price goes up.

The PB10-ISD would make one hell of a bedside table.

I'm trying to get my dad to buy another one for his theater just so the other one won't feel so lonely. That and to make the front of his theater look symmetrical, of course.

I have a 20-39 in my theater, which is an 15x19 room. This room is in my basement, the sub sits on a specially constructed platform filled with 120 pounds of sand and isolated from the walls and floor by dynamat.

When I am watching LOTR, the low frequency bass can still be felt on the third floor of my house.

Does anyone know how the pb10-isd compares to the 25-31.

where did you get the platform or did you make it yourself, would it be worth getting a similar setup for a bedroom HT set up.

The platform is part of the stage that was constructed in my room. You can see pictures in my signature link.
