Life Aquatic or Spaceballs?
Hi, my DVD budget for this month is only allowing me to either purchase either Life Aquatic or Spaceballs. I have never seen the former, and the only Anderson film that I've seen is Rushmore, which I've liked. Whereas Spaceballs is a favorite of mine. Life Aquatic seems to have a better transfer and extras, whereas Spaceballs does not. Also, the review on DVD Talk says that "This 2-disc release comes packaged in a slim double keepcase with a slipcover and no insert." What does that mean? A double amaray? A slimpak, like what is used with so many TV shows? Thanks for the help!

I don't own either, but personally i'd be a no-brainer for me to take the life aquatic criterion over spaceballs. In terms of the DVDs, life aquatic seems to be a much better package, plus it's a criterion-- on the other hand, the extras on spaceballs seems to be a lot of fluff. But if it's all about the movie then you might want to read some reviews and see if you'd actually like life aquatic.
I believe the double slim keepcase is the kind you see on dvds like gangs of new york, and the disney 2-disk platinums.

I've ordered both, but if I had to choose just one now I would get Life Aquatic.
I'm really not sure double dipping on Spaceballs (which I'm doing) is that great of an idea looking at the extras included. They are pretty weak overall.

Life Aquatic is the better disc overall (double dip or not), but it really comes down to what type of comedy is your thing: goofy and obnoxious (Spaceballs) or...well, however you'd describe Life Aquatic (dry?). I love 'em both equally, and for different reasons.

If you can hold of on Spaceballs for a few months, then get The Life Aquatic. MGM DVDs always come down in price quickly. The best deals on The Life Aquatic will probably be during release week, and it might be some time until a similar deal appears.

I would absolutely say Spaceballs...but maybe since I HATED the life aquatic, thought it was one of the worst movies I've ever seen, I could be biased....and this is from a Wes Anderson LOVER (up until this flick)... I say give Life Aquatic a rental first...

My feelings exactly. I am a huge Wes Anderson (one of my favorite directors) and Bill Murray fan and honestly felt that Life Aquatic was one of the poorest films I have ever seen. I went with two other friends that are huge Anderson fans and one hated it as much as I did and the other loved it. So some people love and others hate it. I personally would choose any dvd over Life Aquatic especially Spaceballs which is a very funny movie (stupid but funny).
