Scent of A Woman dts or not?

Just watched my copy of Scent of A Woman and noticed it said DTS ES on the back of the case but there is no dts on the disc. Is there another version out there that does have dts?

I could be wrong but I believe there is only one version (at least in R1) and it doesn't have a dts track (according to several online sources). Probably a misprinted backcover. I don't own it to check but I'm sure there are others that do and can.

Sounds like you bought a bootleg. No DTS on the R1 edition. It's plain Dolby 2.0.

No DTS mentioned on the cover either:

It's a booty. There's only one version of SoAW and it's never been "remastered" in DTS. Not sure why it would be anyway.

I own it, and it does definitely not have a DTS track. It is a Dolby 2.0 mix, with very subpar picture quality too. I really hope Universal re-releases this someday as I think it's a great flick, and it would be a no brainer double dip for me. I always like watching this movie around Thanksgiving time.

Hoo-hah!

Where is the DTS logo on the packaging? If it's in tiny print as part of the movie's credits, that just means that theatrically it played in DTS, but is not an indication of what is included on the DVD. Theatrical DTS is not the same thing as home video DTS.

They'll have my money as soon as they do. I'm still holding on to an old VHS copy since I've not heard good things about the current DVD.

just because it has 2.0 doesn't mean it's not a boot.

Also, why don't you just post some pics at this point. Show us the box and the screens if you can.

Well, there you go. As I said, that is not an indication of what is included on the DVD. Almost all Hollywood studio movies are released theatrically in Dolby Digital, DTS, and SDDS prints. That has nothing to do with the DVD.

Apparently R2 France has a commentary, Deleted Scenes and a featurette.

I just found out about it today and am trying to get additional information.

This is on sale for $5 next week. But this isn't a very good release,so I shouldn't get it? I can wait for a better version, even if it's HD.

It's not a BAD release. It's anamorphic and has a good picture. I believe it's also dual-layered. The only thing we could hope for are these "new" extras and/or HD.

It isn't the greatest disc in my collection. But it is one of the better movies. I don't regret my purchase one bit. It doesn't have to be reference quality to still enjoy the movie.

I completely agree. It's my all time favorite movie and there's still no SE. C'mon Universal, it won Pacino an Academy Award!

I'm surprised DTS was listed in the credits.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought Jurassic Park was the first theatrical release to use DTS. SoaW came out before Jurassic Park.

You are absolutely correct! Jurassic Park was the first theatrical release from Universal studios with a DTS soundtrack. I've have done some extensive research on this topic from various reliable sources at: Widescreen Magazine, Dolby.com, and DTSonline Websites. Also, I viewed the end credits from the DVD, and my results were that, Scent of a Woman was not encoded theatrically with a digital audio soundtrack at all, DTS neither Dolby Digital. The accurate theatrical audio soundtrack for Scent of a Woman is only Dolby Stereo. (Four Channel Dolby Pro-Logic for Home Theater.)
