I'm interested to see how the Johnnie To film does. Nice to see him doing crime movies again.

too bad Hou Hsiao-Hsien's Cafe Lumiere still doesn't have a US distributor and hasn't much played the US film festival circuit.

I wasn't impressed with either Throw Down or Breaking News what other films are available and better than the aforementioned films.

I can't wait to see Manderlay - am very curious to see how Bryce Dallas Howard plays the title role of Grace Margaret Mulligan

It's nice to see To--the hardest working and one of the most talented filmmakers today--in competition. I thought his last two movies were pretty damn good.

If you are in NYC area Cafe Lumiere is having a limited run at the Anthology Film Archives this May.

Star Wars being on that list makes me chuckle. I guess it's cool to see Lucas chill out with a bunch of pretentious snobby people but his movie doesn't seem to fit.

you're accusing all the filmmakers on that list of being pretentious? how did you arrive at that conclusion?

interesting. so by figuring the ratio of accented letters to non-accented, one can determine the level of undeserved self-importance a film is likely to exhibit.

Sátántángo = 30% pretentious

Exactly, plus look at the poster, Black & White. It's like it's saying, "Hey, I'm too good for color. Color is for the masses."

Eh. That trailer doesn't really let me know who's directing it enough.

I'm really eager to see these two:

Where The Truth Lies Atom Egoyan
Last Days Gus Van Sant

I'm always captivated by Gus Van Sant, even if I don't enjoy everything he does. That is, any picture he directs is worth a watch, in my opinion. As for "Where the Truth Lies," I'm about a week past watching "The Sweet Hereafter," the only film of Egoyan's that I've ever seen...and I was so thoroughly impressed that I'm soon going to seek out anything I can find with his name attached, with hopes that it'll live up to "Hereafter."
