I found a guy who is selling "All of the DVDs are Chinese Collector Edition, comes with hard cover box".

These are region coded 0, but are priced very cheaply. Example - Sopranos Seasons 1-5 fro 30 bucks.

What exactly are these? GRey Market items of legitimate chinese releases? Out and out pirated onto DVD-R, sophisiticated counterfeits created on full size dvds?

Anyone have any experience with these? Is this legal?

In my experience these are almost always mid-to-high quality bootlegs.

They are all poorly produced sets that will under-perform from the moment they arrive. They skip, leave out things, are generally very poorly mastered and tend to look like crap. If it sounds to good to be true, it'll bite you in the ass to be sure. Season 5 of the Sopranos hasn't even been released yet so that ought to tell you right there that something smells rather bootish. Even if it were already released, any collection of Seasons for a current show going for what these are selling for should tell you something.

Yah, right ...SOPRANOS is going to be legally licensed to appear on a region-free DVD set for $30. They're sold by the first cousin of the guy who has $25 Rolexes.

Do a search for Asian collector's editions (or some variation) and you'll find a lot of threads about this crap.
