The Price is Right appreciation thread
Best game show on tv. Who wants to be a Millioinaire is pretty good too. Why doesn't jeapordy champ Ken Jennings go on that show? back on topic...TPIR has stood the test of time. my favorite new game on TPIR is 'Cover Up'. I also like the older games that have been around forever, like the "Clock Game", but i haven't seen it much lately. oh and how bout those Beauties?

I love The Price is Right! I watched it for the first time when I was 4, with grandma. I did not even speak English then, but I loved Bob! It has since become a favorite. You could say that The Price is Right helped me learn a second language.

A kid down the street won a car from the PiR over Spring Break!
I wish I could play.

Mostly because she's the most animated B-Beauty ever.

I usually catch half an hour of this before class everyday, but did anyone see the woman last week who refused to go on in the game because they wouldn't give all 5 dice to roll again. she was shaking and asking the crowd what to do on the game where you roll die that have cars and $ on them. she ended up taking 1500 after the first roll because she sadi she wanted to roll them all again and they wouldn't let her. She kept saying "mmm mmm, no way" and shaking her finger at BOB.

I used to love having a day off because I could catch TPIR. Now that I have a TiVo and a season pass to it, I never watch it. It just doesn't feel right to be watching it at 10PM.

growing up, I used to catch it religiously! that's almost 20 years of faithful watching. (okay, minus the last 5 to 7 years for being amongst the workforce and not being able to catch it anymore)

Still watch it whenever I get the chance. It's been on Saturday night for the last two weeks, so I've been watching those as well. I have never been any good at the car games, especially that Lucky Seven.
I love watching the contestants as the person next to them tops their bid by $1, ruining their his or her chance to get on stage.
One of the saddest days of my life is when I found out that the "Come On Down" part is NOT a random pick.

Me, my sister, and the two other kids that went to the same babysitter as little kids used to watch PiR with the babysitter every day (back when cable/satellite weren't so widespread). We would then go in another room and create our own PiR games, with candy and juice as prizes

I'd like to punch that guy in the face right now but I can't because I'd get in trouble if I do that. I bet you get a lot of that on Let's Make A Deal.

How do they pick the contestants?

They break up the 330 or so people in groups of 10 and ask you one question "What do you do". If they like you they may ask you one or two more questions. The reason I know....I was a contestant on my golden birthday last year!! Too bad they called me with only 2 games to go and I never made it out of contestant's row...ah well (anyone need a shop vac or ANY type of dictionary?? :-P). The other two questions they asked were "what is my favorite game and how often do I watch?" Of course, everyone and their brother says "PLINKO" so I didn't, I said the Clock Game...that kind of threw them off and sure enough I was called down.
It's an extremely small stage too. Unless you are sitting dead center, you can't see all three of the big doors.

I always enjoy when the contestant is taking too long to place a bid or whatever and Bob starts coaxing them along, obviously pissed. He's just going to end up stabbing someone one of these days.

.I get to see the last half of this show just about every day. I roll in laughter when people come just SOOOOOO close to winning then drop the ball. Today's episode was a great example with this guy who got the dice to roll for a new car. He rolled a six, and he knew the number was lower. He then rolled a five and the number was a five. He then rolled a one and knew the number was higher than one. Then he rolled a two. I was sitting there thinking I would say the number would be lower, because I don't know how many times I've seen people lose the game like this, and of course he picks that the number would be higher and when it came up ONE I died laughing.
Don't get me wrong, I like it when people win, but I just sit there and think man, all those taxes they now owe will just kill them. I would want to go on there if I had a guarantee to win cash, as I wouldn't want to come up with the tax money for the prizes. I could pay tax on the cash real easy, but not so easy on a trip or a car.
