Is there anymore Scorsese left?

I was wondering, with the recent successes of the boxsets, would there be another forthcoming collection? I don't know how many Scorsese titles are as yet unreleased or need further updating.

The ones I'm interested in are King of Comedy and Age of Innocence, which I put off buying because of their barebones releases. One is owned by Fox and the other is Sony, I believe.

The previous 2 sets were doubledips and new-to-dvd titles, so I'm thinking all that's left for another set would be mostly previously released titles (like Gangs and the upcoming Casino.)

But Oliver Stone's the only person I can think of that was able to put together a boxset with films from several different companies.

And he's a nut...

King of Comedy isn't quite barebones, as it has a featurette and deleted scenes. Not a massive set of extras, but the deleted scenes make it a must-purchase for Scorcese completists, I think.

As for multi-studio boxsets, it happened with Kubrick, as well.

It would be nice if BV would re-issue New York Stories in OAR!

'Kundun', 'The Color of Money' and, if you care about it, 'Bringing Out The Dead' are all barebones releases also, I believe. 'Kundun' is especially notable because there was a feature length doc shot on the set (at least partially) and released theatrically, which is available as an extra in another region (region 3, I believe).

As noted 'King of Comedy' isn't quite barebones, and it seems like Scorsese gave it all he wants to. And 'Boxcar Bertha' is barebones, but it seems like that's just fine with him.

Oh, 'Taxi Driver' could stand with an update, if only for the long-unavailable Criterion-LD commentary track with Scorsese and Schrader.

Why is "Taxi Driver" the only movie in the Columbia/Sony catalog that they don't re-release over and over? I hope that they are waiting to get that Criterion commentrary I've heard so much about, or at least a substancial update as opposed to most of their lame re-releases.

As for the "Kundun", "Color of Money", and "Bring Out the Dead", I'd gladly pick up a boxed set of anamorphic SEs. I only own "Kundun" right now, and it's screaming for a re-release. That doc ThatGuamGuy mentioned sounds great! Where is it, Buena Vista?!? The only way I'd probably ever go for "Bringing Out the Dead" is if it were part of such a box set.

And what about the old rumors of Criterion putting out some of his early short films, and "Italian American"? Hopefully someone will releasse those...

BV could make a box set with Kundun, Color of Money, Gangs of New York, New York Stories and My Voyage to Italy. I'd buy it, but I don't think they'd ever make it.

Just a general comment about 'deleted scenes'...

I'm beginning to care less and less about deleted scenes...unless there's some widely talked about deleted scene(s) in the rumor mills, the average deleted scene is well left on the cutting room floor.

Of course there's always a exception to that. For example, the deleted scenes for Episode I should have all been in the film. However the deleted scenes for Episode II should have stayed cut, with the exception of maybe one or two.

Good suggestions, all.

There seems to be a good balance with the previous boxsets: a popular title along with unfamiliar titles- Goodfellas and Who's That Knocking, Raging Bull and Boxcar Bertha, etc. It was a winning formula for the Warners set (for me personally) because it was a good mix of popular, unseen and unreleased titles. For earlier films and shorts, they'd likely be packaged with more popular stuff. And I'd get some of his docs in there too, Italianamerican and Il Mio viaggio in Italia, and that weird profile of Steven Prince he did years ago.

I'd forgotten about Kundun and Bringing Out the Dead, as so many have. The latter would be a nice addition for a Paul Schrader boxset instead, also screaming for a collection of his own, and his films are even less profitable than Scorsese.

Speaking of deleted scenes, where did all the Aidan Quinn footage wind up from the original Last Temptation, before the money dried up? On a related note, Color of Money never got its due on dvd. That's ironic, since it's his most commercial movie: That's where the title comes from, as he only agreed to the film to get funding for re-starting Last Temptation, with Willem Dafoe cast instead of Quinn.

A reissue of that, along with another shot at Taxi Driver for its 30th anniversary would be welcome news.

I think that was a tcm original that first aired the day before the first set was released since it's a Warners network. It's not on dvd, it covers the majority of his movies but it's pretty short on each film, like Schickel's old Men Who Made the Movies series. It would probably only be released with another Warners title, or set.

I desperately want a Special Edition of "The Color of Money," since the previous one is not only barebones with a 4.0 surround track, but the picture is also non-anamorphic. I would like to see something done with this and am very surprised nothing has already. Do they realize this movie earned Paul Newman an Academy Award?

I've noticed other regions have Paul Newman boxsets, but there isn't one for Region 1. They are all different titles, but none, for some reason, have bundled The Hustler with Color of Money.

Color of Money wouldnt be my favorite Scorsese, but if it would help get another boxset going I'd be all for it. That'd be BV I think, so that could go with Gangs, Kundun, and Personal Journey..., which is pretty affordable now, a good doc everyone should see.

My Voyage to Italy would be packaged better with titles of the different filmmakers he speaks of.
