The Matrix Online; Really as crappy as it looks?

From the videos and screenshots I've seen, this looks to be a horrid horrid game. As much as I'd like to enjoy the game (being a huge Matrix fan), I've a feeling that it'll be another Star Wars Galaxies and have it's name as it's only draw. Has anyone played it?

If it was anything like Galaxies I would stay far far away. Galaxies really jaded me on Star Wars based games, because it seemed like it used the lisence to sell itself, rather than making a great game. I haven't heard much about Matrix Online, but I would be interested to hear opinions. I am looking forward to trying WOW currently.

Matrix Online doesn't look too bad from the shots i have seen, although i have no interest at all in playing it.

I agree that Galaxies sucked hard though.I didn't think it would be possible to F*** up an MMORPG set in the Star Wars universe, but they sure found a way.

I haven't played Matrix Online, but I've heard from those who have played it that it's basically a City of Heroes clone, only not as good. The general consensus is that it's not a terrible game per se, but that it's not the kind of game that's going to hold the typical gamer's interest past the first month.

Don't write off Star Wars games entirely... The KOTOR and JEDI KNIGHT series are excellent. I'm about 20% into Kotor 2, and loving it!

You can't be Neo, or even come close to his "power" (from what I understand). No, you can't be a squidbot.

And the goodwill created by those games is offset by - well, let's see:
- Republic Commando (kinda lame)
- Masters of the Teras Kasi (shudder)
- Force Commander (supposedly super lame)
- X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter (crapola)
- Yoda's Desktop Adventures (the horror, the horror)
- Rebel Assault (run away screaming)
- Queen Amidala's Jedi Makeup Simulator (coming 2006)

- David Stein

Yeah but X-Wing and TIE Fighter the standalones were brilliant and more than make up for X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter.

Rogue Squadron 1 and 2 were great as well, and the 3rd was good (aside from the on foot levels and being a little too easy).

Yeah, but it is the Matrix . . . shouldn't those rules be broken?

I played the Beta for about 2 weeks. It's CoH without the fun. It's not worth picking up at this point. Perhaps a year from now.
