History of Beavis & Butthead - Did I get a bootleg?
Hey all. I recently bought a used copy of the History of B&B off ebay. As most know, it was recalled days before it actual hit retail stands, but some slipped out. The person I bought it off of ebay has a feedback of over 50, with no neutrals or negatives. Anyway, to me, it looks like a bootleg. Maybe someone can help that owns it?
The cover itself look somewhat grainy. Not as shiny as a normal DVD release. On the bottom of the DVD cover, there is a mallwhite line, almost like they printed the cover and cut it to fit in the case. The case itself holds both DVDs (shaped like the Jay and Silent Bob Strikes back case. It does have an inert, which feels glossy, and looks real. The artwork on the DVD's don't look as 'shiny' as most thay are sold. One has a picture of Beavis, the other of Butthead. When I flip the discs over, they are both gold. Since there was only one run of this DVD, if someone else has it, I assume the color of the disc (gold) would be the same as theres. Maybe someone can help? Atleast validate the color of the disc, as well as if there case looks a bit 'grainey'
Thanks!

rumors were that there was some kind of rights issue with some of the national monuments footage used in the menus. i bought one of the legit sets off ebay awhile back, and it is a MUST in addition to the timelife sets. none of the episodes overlap between them. i'm still surprised why the studio has not revisited this.

In an interview on the Onion, Mike Judge said this set was recalled because MTV selected the "best" episodes without his participation. There is nothing about rights that caused them to be recalled.

Yup. Here is the article and here is the specific quote:
O: Did you not want that material out there, or was the problem just that they didn't consult you before doing it?
MJ: There are a couple things. There's a DVD they put out called The History Of Beavis And Butt-Head, and it was all the episodes that I didn't pick for the home-video series. So it was basically all the worst episodes, with some exceptions. With that title, it appeared to be a definitive collection. And I'm thinking about my kids and their friends, if they ever ask, "What did your dad do?" I had absolute approval rights, and they just blatantly did this without telling me. I still don't understand why it happened. It wasn't like somebody had been fired and somebody new was there: These were the people I'd been working with since '93. But I got them to recall a lot of them.

I'm sure the OP appreciates everyones help with his question. THe discs sound legit, but I don't have anything to compare them to. My suggestion would be to compare it to other E bay auctions and find out if there are any similarities or glaring differences. Just a thought.

I have the official studio release. I do believe it is the Canadian version. The first disc is green and the second disc is pink. It didn't come with an insert nor does it have a white line across the front.

I'm looking at it right now, purchased at Media Play before they were pulled. Mine has a 2 sided insert. Cover art does look a little grainy/cheap compared to most. Does the back of your discs have serial #s stamped on them around the core?

I have a set which I'm fairly confident is legit. It has no "white line" on the cover, and disc one is green, disc two pink. Disc one has art of a "bust" of Butt-head while disc two has Beavis. The disc art is screened-on, not a sticker or label. No insert. For what it's worth, the cover art looks terribly lame. I don't think I've seen any other DVDs with art this bad, It's as if they never intended it for real release at all. However the cover is cut perfectly straight and has rounded corners. Appears to be "real" to me, though crappy.
