Ring Two?

mmmk...

simple question

"the ring" was based on "ringu" which was based on a book. correct? "ring two" is therefore is going to be based on what exactly? wasn't the next ring a prequel in japan?

It is based on an original script, that follows from where the first one left off.

In Japan, there were 3 movies made: Ringu, Ringu 2 and Ringu 0, which was a prequel, set about 30 years before Ringu 1. So far, there have only been two made in the States.

The review thread is closed, so I just decided to chime in here. Finally rented this from Netflix. We watched both American Ring movies back to back. I love the first Ring. Just has an amazing style, dripping with mood and a certain creepiness factor, the lighting, the sounds, the subtleties you only notice after a couple of watchings, everything. Ring 2, my gosh, it just blew. The difference was noticeable right from the start. I know it's a different director, but man, it was just terrible. It wasn't creepy. It wasn't at all subtle. The whole ring look was just gone. Everything was sunny and such. It was just downright stupid. At least we had fun making fun of it...

Funny this is, the American Ring 2 is directed by the same guy that directed the Japanese versions of 1 and 2!

If you still have the DVD from Netflix, if it's the unrated version, you should check out Rings, the short film. It's much better than the actual movie.

Maybe that's why I like the American Ring better than the original Japanese Ring.

I think I do too. I haven't seen any of the other Japanese versions except the first one.

Yeah, I think I just like Verbinski's style a lot more when it comes to scares than the other director. Different strokes. Not even the makeup of the victims was as good as the original. Other things were just sloppy. The deer smash into her car and smash out the windows. Then all of a sudden, the side windows are back. WTF?

Thanks for the heads up about the short film. I guess I'll check it out before I drop it back in the mail.

On a good note, Naomi Watts was as gorgeous as ever.
