Good Gangster/Crime Movies? 70's-2000's?

Im starting my DVD collection up again, and am gonna buy a variety of movies this time, not just comedy. Anyways, here is a list of ones ive seen, and ones that im gonna buy in time.

Scarface
Taxi Driver

Havent seen any of the Godfathers, Dog Day Afternoon, or Serpico, but would they be good blind buys? I like gangster/crime movies, and wanna see/buy more! Any suggestions not listed? Your help would be MUCH appreciated, thnx in advance

Even though this post is not in the international forum, I'm still going to recommend some Japanese films to see ..

Yakuza Papers (box set) and some other Fukasaku works, Street Mobster and Blackmail is my Life

Branded to Kill and some other older Sezuki stuff .. Tokyo Drifter, Youth of the Beast

Check out Miike Takashi ... (Shinjuku Triad trilogy) Rainy Dog, Ley Lines and China Mafia War .. Deadly Outlaw Rekka .. Miike's got a ton of 'em .. but be prepared for the unusual.

Cheers ..

Millers Crossing and Yes the Godfather is "good"

I'll 3rd Millers Crossing, that movie is def. a classic. The Godfather, w/out ? is one of the best gangsta flicks of all time. All of the Godfather films r.

There have been some great British gangster films over the past few years. I particularly recommend LOCK, STOCK AND TWO SMOKING BARRELS and SEXY BEAST.

You can get Miller's Crossing and King of New York (2-disc) fairly cheap.

Definitely gotta get Goodfellas and the Godfather set.

I'll second these recommendations. I hardly ever have time to sit down and watch movies that much these days, but I flew through my Yakuza Papers box set in about a week. Great stuff.

Not mentioned yet, but check out State of Grace. Abel Ferrara's The Funeral is another good one.
