good websites for anime
rather than ask people who don't know my tastes what anime i should watch, i'm looking for websites that are very good/informative on the subject.
i'd DEFINITELY go for a site that has trailers posted.
justbarelymovin, feel free to chime in, oh goddess of anime.

Anime on DVD is pretty good, but I think they're kind of snobby over there, which I find to be a turn off.
You can always head on over to The DVD Talk Anime Bargains thread that I run with the help of fellow members.
Or you can marvel at the anime portion of my DVD collection. He he. Just kidding. I'm proud, okay.
You can always check Amazon for customer reviews.
If it's any consolation, I can recommend a few titles for you.
Feature films:
Akira (essential for any anime fan)
Castle in the Sky
Castle of Cagliostro, The
Cowboy Bebop: The Movie - Knockin' on Heaven's Door
Escaflowne: The Movie
Ghost in the Shell
Grave of the Fireflies (warning: second saddest film I've ever seen - definitely hard to stomach)
Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade
Macross Plus: The Movie
Memories
Metropolis
Princess Mononoke
Spirited Away
Vampire Hunter D
Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust
Series:
Berserk
Cowboy Bebop (it's popular for a reason)
Escaflowne
FLCL
Fullmetal Alchemist
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex
GTO (effin' hilarious)
Gungrave
Hellsing
His and Her Circumstances
Irresponsible Captain Tylor
Last Exile (I simply praise this series)
Marcross Plus
Marmalade Boy
Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam (though it's admittedly tough to follow if you haven't seen some of the other Gundam series)
Neon Genesis Evangelion (I find this series a little overrated to be honest)
Noir
R.O.D the TV (I'm surprised at how much I've come to like this series - it's really grown on me)
Rurouni Kenshin
Samurai Champloo (excellent series, very fun to watch)
Samurai OVA Collection
Trigun
Vampire Princess Miyu
Witch Hunter Robin
X
Oh, I'm not sure if this matters or not, but I'm a girl. I'm assuming you're of the male gender, so you might not like the more girlie series I have listed here.
Mind you, I haven't had a chance to watch everything I own at the moment. I can't wait for summer so I can watch all the stuff I have available to me now!
I've gone ahead and linked you to Anime on DVD's reviews of these titles (if series, then the first volume).
I hope you found that somewhat helpful because it took a pretty long time. ;o

It's definitely an excellent series though. In fact, I'd say that was a great recommendations list!

I'd also suggest:
Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind and Porco Rosso both just came out in region 1.
(Fuck it, get every Studio Ghibli movie you can get your hands on.)
Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence, which is probably my favorite anime since Spirited Away.
Tokyo Godfathers which is completely different than your typical action/mecha/gun fest.
Ninja Scroll which is your archtypal action/ninja/sword fest.
Sky Blue which is dramatic Korean animation, not exactly perfect but amazing to look at.
and maybe,
Kite which proves that even hentai can have artistic merit.

i'm actually open to a lot of anime. i think something like Fushigi Yugi is semi-directed to girls, but frequently it would make me laugh out loud.
