I don't think much of Green Day, but I'd much rather listen to them than Zeppelin.

This message was left blank because any argument claiming that Green Day is a better band than Led Zeppelin should be conducted in an insane assylum. While I do not think that Zeppelin is the greatest band in the world, there is a decent percentage of the world's population that does. So, when somebody says "___________ is better than Led Zeppelin", what they are really saying is "___________ is the best band in the world."

I had read the original article and did a double-take. I couldn't figure out if she meant what she said and if she was doing it for shock value. The wierdest part was how quickly she moved on, as if it was just an astute aside that people would agree with then continue reading.

I'd take Green Day over Zeppelin any day (and Zeppelin is more from my generation than Green Day is). They got louder guitars. Just because a band is "old", doesn't mean that they are better than a "newer" band.

Green Day is just more my type of music.

I like Zeppelin better, but I have to admit that American Idiot is better than any Zep album.

IMHO, Zeppelin is horribly overrated, so I'd probably agree with the author. I like some Zep, but not a huge fan.

i usually reserve the word "overrated" for bands like Pink Floyd. Zeppelin earned what credibility they have now, and it wasn't easy. weren't they were hated at first? then people realized (for a short time) that music didn't have to be insanely popular to be great.

Led Zeppelin sucks ass. As does Pink Floyd and any band from from the 70's. Besides AC/DC of course.

Exactly. They were never immensely popular. That has grown through the years. If I remember right it was their live show that got them what popularity they had. Taking a 5 minute song and turning it into a 20 minute opus. They were musical composers.

Green Day are musical artists. Write 3 minute song, play 3 minute song. Look pretty for TRL. Big difference in my mind. BJA doesn't deserve to lick Jimmy Page's bootstrap.

Does that make Green Day bad? No. Different era, different style, different ballpark. It is wrong to compare them in the first place.

BTW, This is based on all previous GD work, I have yet to hear AI. Flame on.

Although I would agree with this, to claim that they are better than Led Zeppelin is idiotic.

And I hate Led Zeppelin.

Overrated or not, LZ will still be remembered for another 20 years from now when GD is just a footnote in New Millenium history books under "pop band with Punk overtones" .

Lest we forget....Zeppelin became legendary WITHOUT being played on all versions of MTV 6 times an hour.

It depends. If the Green Day drummer dies of some kind of drug overdose, they might be remembered as being better than they actually are in 20 years.

Seriously though, I might agree with the Salon writer. If I were stuck on an island somewhere, I would rather be trapped with the Green Day catalogue than some Zeppelin CDs. It really depends on personal taste. Who is to say what band is better than another. It depends on what you like.

Of course, a lot of my opinion has to do, probably, with the fact that Green Day is a little more up my alley and the fact that I hear enough Zep songs on our local station in one day to where they make my stomach turn... except for Tangerine.

Both bands are good, but I can't personally say Green Day is better than Zeppelin.

Once Green Day makes a "Houses of the Holy" and 20+ years pass, I'll come back to this thread.

It appears you need to stay in the Nick Lachey thread.

Yes, but those fine bands from the 80's sure are amazing. Ahh, who can forget Air Supply, Journey, Poison, Bon Jovi, Huey Lewis, and the other fine "stars" of the decade. (There are some good bands from the 80's, but you'd say they suck: e.g., Talking Heads)

Or maybe you're a 90's guy, in which case you prefer Naughty by Nature, Color Me Badd, and of course Green Day. (There are some good 90's bands; not "all" of them suck.)

But I agree with brianluvdvd --- you're probably more into Blink 182, Limp Bizkit, Backstreet Boys, Christina Aguilera, etc. --- you know, those ROCKIN' "bands" from the new millenium.

Of course, if you instead prefer music from the 50's and 60's, then I take back everything I said. But it's hilarious that someone can actually say "all the bands from the 70s suck ass."
