I was just playing LOTR:ROTK EE in my DVP642, and hey, it actually outputs a DTS signal. Kinda took me by surprise.

This is probably known to everyone on the planet, but it's great news to me.

I've had real iffy experience with DTS on a 642. Usually when I try to play a DTS track, it will play for a minute or two, then the audio cuts out and I get a "No DTS Audio Stream" or some such message. That's really odd, since it can obviously decode it, yet gives up trying after a minute. Maybe some kind of buffer issue? Haven't tried it since I upgraded the firmware last week, though. What firmware are you using?

It's the /37 firmware version.

I'll make note about the cutting out after a few minutes, but last night, I watched the entire LOTR:ROTK EE in DTS. I didn't notice any cutting out. I'll look more closely this time (on my AVR-5700, it's handy to have the channel signals light up when a signal is passing through). I'll try it on a few other movies and see what happens too.

Ive never had problems with it other than the "Cannot decode DTS" message when you first start a movie. Just hit pause then play and it goes away. Otherwise plays perfectly.

What firmware version do you have? I haven't had any problems at all. I wonder if the type of DTS decoder on the receiver/amp has any part to do with these messages.
