Can you name this hand-held laser game?

Ok, here is my challenge. My father had a hand-held "laser tag"-like toy when he was younger. Both guns were grey, and the top was teardrop shaped. They would make a laser sound when fired, as well as a sound when the other person hit you. They are not Laser Tag, but sort of like that - just a lot older. I thought that it was a Star Trek laser game, but I have had no luck finding a set.

Anyway, if someone knows what this is, or where I can find a set, please let me know. I am wanting to get one for my father's upcoming birthday.

Thanks in advance.

The only other "laser sport" game I know besides laser tag is photon.

It is much, much older than that. I wish I could draw a picture - the top is teardrop shaped with the front end being the wider end. The only piece was the gun itself - there were no other parts.

Are you maybe merging the photon with the light gun from the NES?

Anyone remember that toy that was a cheap crappy video camera that used audio cassettes to record to? I wish I had one of those. my folks wouldn't buy it for me back then. :/ I did have a po-go ball though.

Not at all. I would imagine that this toy is from the 60s/70s, as it was my fathers (who is in his 50s now). I remember playing with it when I was younger, so I believe it is around 25 years old.

It's the Star Trek Phaser game, which came out with Star Trek: The Motion Picture. I had it. It had a great commercial with two kids shooting each other... one had vulcan ears. When the vulcan kid was hit, his ears went flaccid ; )

my sister had one of the those when she was like 10 or so. Nothing like grainy black and white footage of us kids goofing around.

I've seen sets listed on eBay that say this, but the picture never matches what I was looking for. I take it that this is NOT the Phaser 2 game, correct?

No, that is not it.

If you look at it from above, it is wide at the front and narrower at the back. I'm trying to draw a VERY rough picture with MS paint, and I will post it in a second.

edit: ok, the "drawing" on the left is a top view. The other is the side view. Sorry, but I'm not much of an artist.

unfortunately, no. these were totally grey in color. I seem to remember my father telling me they were Star Trek, but - after searching the internet - I have my doubts.

These, most likely, would have been one of the first "laser tag" games made. Was there a Star Trek Phaser "1" game?

These "Laser Tag" toys were probably the first to come out on the market. they were introduced into the market in 1979, which is a full 2 years before my birth, and way ahead of any of the competition that I know of. They were manufactured by a company named SOUTH BEND TOYS, and didn't really have a scoring system. They make 3 sounds, a "Phaser Blast" for firing, a "Ricochet" for near misses, and an "Explosion" for a direct hit. After a direct hit, the Phaser is disabled for approximately one minute.

you might have better luck finding the ones I posted - and from what I remember, they worked pretty well and were quite fun.
